Consider this:
Use the 470 Capstick reamer inserted to desired length.
This gives it the 470 Capstick "ghost shoulder."
Then finish up with a .45-70 Govt. reamer for the base and rim.
Brass length of 1.6205" will make it a perfect match to the .45-70 base diameter (0.5055") above the usual rim,
thickness of 0.070" and rim diameter of 0.608".
Tapers from case mouth and ghost shoulder O.D. of 0.499": 0.0065" of taper over 1.5505" of case body above the rim,
and all of that taper is in the 1.05" below the ghost shoulder.

It is no mere .475 Linebaugh of only 1.4050" case length, with zero case body taper and reduced rim diameter. Eeker

My new wildcat is much more, more than 0.2" longer, full diameter rim, and some taper!
Not a .475 Linebaugh Long, nosirree!

I am going to call it the "470 Chap Stick."
Should be great in single-shots and double rifles.

Then there is the 2-inch long version of similar,
I am calling that the "470 Coup Stick."
Might warrant a custom reamer ...

Anybody heard of anything like that before?
This is totally different from the 470 Turnbull and 475 Turnbull.

Well, those are officially my 23rd and 24th Wildcat designs, independent of anyone else's reduplication of genius or stupidity. hilbily
I haven't built them all, but I am working on it.
Maybe a 25th?

Neck diameter of 470 Capstick is .499"
Neck diameter of 45-70 is .480"
29 thou for brass vs 22 thou for brass neck thickness.
7 thou difference or 3.5 thou per side.
Thou shall not exceed 1 thou.
Wherefore art thou?

Brass neck wall thickness for the .45-70 Govt.:

(0.480" - 0.458")/2 = 0.011"

Brass neck wall thickness for the 470 Capstick is the same as for the 470 Chapstick:

(0.499" - 0.475")/2 = 0.012"

This is a very common and workable situation.
Brass can be turned on the outside or reamed on the inside.
Or it can be made smaller than nominal, as it usually is, since the numbers above are "maximums."
A smaller peg will go in a bigger hole.
A bigger peg will not go in a smaller hole.
I am talking about brass cartridges and chambers.

Regarding case taper, heed jeffeosso's profound wisdom.
I cannot say it any better.

So, wherefore art thou now, boom stick?
Dost thou question yet?
Do ye ken?

Get a load of the .475 Linebaugh with zero case taper, from a shortened .45-70 case with rim diameter reduced so as to fit in a revolver cylinder more easily:

John Linebaugh did a ".475 Linebaugh Maximum"
which had a 1.6" case length:
Very similar to the .470 Chap Stick.

Gary Reeder has a 475 GNR which is a 475x45-70. Dies are already available for it thru him.

I think J.D. Jones has one too.

At my work we have a 475 45/70 reamer.
It may be marked as a JDJ.
Every time I look at it the voices in my head scream "Don't Do It!"
