Thanks Bartsche for making the dummy wave

223 based cart cut to 1.6" blown out straight and 180 grain hornady spire point.
Was thinking this would be a good cart for the ar15 or micro actions. Can be done too with 357 maximum cases with the rim turned off and extractor grove added.
Designed to be the same oal as the 223 and get 357 maximum results or close to 35 remington
Use 357 maximum dies but a new reamer for headspacing off the casemouth is needed.

Use pistol bullets or 35 rem bullets like the 180 hornady

A high capacity magazine full of these would be cool.

I thought a great CQC put em down with one round cart and subsonic round with heavy bullets.

Hunt deer out to 200 yards.

Cheap plinking with pistol bullets

Common case family and rim size

Should be the same capacity and performance of the russian military 9x39

What do you think?

9mm winchester magnum is 1.16" and not a 357/358
351 SLR not a 357/358 and shorter 1.380"
The 357 maximum is well proven and diff than these.
To use a rimless version in an ar15 or micro action for 223 size carts is cooooooool Big Grin

Could you...

just run a 9mm reamer in to the desired depth and go from there?

I wonder if just a 35 neck throater could be used to 1.6"

Is that possible?

Must headspace on the casemouth though.

I like the idea of headspacing off the case mouth. Zero case grouth - it's got nowhere to go!

What would the expected performance be? How would that compare to the '375/6.8 SPC'?

Well the 375 SPC I think would have about 15% more energy and more put down power. Both have their charms.

Built an upper for this cartridge. Mags were the drawback, not to mention, cutting the rims down. Was shooting the 180Hornady SSP and the Rem 180gr HP. Shot real well. Can't tell you much more as scrapped the bbl and tossed notes.

Did this about 3 years ago. Thought it would be one heck of a caliber for the AR15 platform.
Mags were the only holdup.

A better option in this class might be the .357 Herrett with a shortened neck made from 6.8 SPC brass. Magazines work and the no need to mess with rims.

I wrote about this option a while back.
To use the herrett reamer to the 6.8spc depth and shortened Herrett dies. It is a good option as well.

Not exactly, the front magazine rib is too deep for the OD of the projectiles.

What brand of magazines? My CProducts magazines seem to work just fine.
