Been thinking (dangerous) about "improving" the 577/450 case and necking to .500" to have a near 500NE capacity for a 500 SW NEF single shot conversion. Thinking cal neck, 20 thou taper, 35 degree shoulders. A rimless version would be a helova cool short action round. 600 grains@ 2150 at moderate pressure.
Any thought besides expelatives?

ummm...

why not just chamber for the 500NE 3" and load it to whatever pressure you can handle?

Have you ever shot a 500 S&W Handi there Boomy? LoL 6lbs rifle with lots of comb drop does not equal a good time, I can only put about 6 rounds through mine before I call it good.

I have a friend that has one of those handi things. Of course it was left to me to set up for him, load, scope, what have you. I might catch hell over this, but what a POS. I could barely keep any load inside a foot tub at 50 yds. Not much recoil, but I just got a bad taste in my mouth with that thing. Might have been only that one, I don't know as I will most likely never monkey with one again.

Yeah, maybe I just got a bad one. I don't know. But you say they are now Remingtons??? That is enough to turn me way off of them now! So guess I am out on them, not that I was in.

I will stick with the 1885s.

I thought the NEF WAS available in 7.62x39...or maybe thats the Rossi...hmm.

Boomy - the NEF 500 is a straight beast, but I'm sure it'll be right at home in your gun safe haha. Remember this though...the S&W has a comped barrel, and actually weighs like 2lbs MORE then the NEF. It will get your attention
