I have been enamoured for years on Ross's idea on the 416 Rigby necked to 30 cal. + blown out to 40 deg.The cost of the case form dies was my primary concern. Then I got the "weird" idea that the .338 Lapua was only a necked down .416 to .338. HMMMMM.Anyone reading this already knows what I'm talking about. So why could one not neck down .338 to a .308 cal. without the interum of $600.00 in alternate die sizing.? This a question of series from one who forms his own brass...bullets as well (but that is another subject).

Norman This would make an impressive 30 cal long range calibre. However I have to ask what would it do that a couple existing cartridges can't do. The 30-378 Wby for example. If you don't like the belt then the 300 Pegasus or the 7.82 Warbird.

I had a 30-416 Rigby for a short time...made by a smith in Montana on a Sako TRG action. It would shoot 2 1/2" groups at 650 yards. The 30-416 was a 1,000 yard wildcat for a while.

Biebs,

that would have been one Daniel Lilja, of Plains, MT, I expect...? He brought a rifle down chambered for his 30-416 Sniper wildcat. He made some of the finest barrels, still does. I have a 22-284 he did for me.

I think I have four or five of his barrels.

I have a 300 Lapua. Due to the case volume and excellent brass along with RL25 and Retumbo high velocities are readily obtainable. Redding made my dies. You won't be disapointed.
