i was thinking up wildcat ideas and this one came to me...

is it a good idea to turn a 450 marlin browning b.l.r. into a 458 wsm???

the 458 wsm gets a 450 gr bullet about 2150 fps.

if you had a 450 marlin in a blr...to turn it into a 458 wsm is just a ream and feed job and viola! a cheap 400 more fps! have two clips, one with 350 gr noslers or north forks for distance and one clip with 450 gr north forks softs with a solid as the last round for the timber. thought it was a good cheap wildcat conversion since the barrel and bolt face need no changes.

hopefully someone might like this idea BOOM

Boomy,
just shoot a 450marlin and see what it is, FIRST in a blr

if you are judging it off just about ANY 45-70 load, your expectations are too low

Those Marlins - even the Cowboy with the 26" bbl or whatever it is - are light! A 405g at what, 1850? will definitely get your attention. I drew up a Rigby-based case for the Marlin 45 a while back, along with a 404-based, and though O'm sure they'd do what you think they'd do, it's really the sort of platform you have to appreciate for what it is rather than trying to sup' it up and bore it out.

I have an old Rem 600 that I made into a 458/2.250 a long time ago. With a full case and 405 gr bullets in this kevlar stocked rifle it`s a case of ~~~~You shoot something nasty and whotever gets up first!!! Wins.
