Caprivi Elephant with Vaughan Fulton
First hunting report posting, Just returned from Namibia, the Caprivi Strip hunting with Classic Safaris, Vaughn Fulton was my PH.

I think this was my 7th trip to Africa, 2nd with Vaughn, hunted 16 days, same area last year, no luck. Vaughn invited me back for FREE this year. Original hunt booked by Wendell Reich.

Vaughn is one of the finest people I have ever hunted with. His word is good as it gets. He makes every effort to ensure you not only get the animals you want, but also have a good time. We saw hundreds and hundreds of elephant. That was part of the problem. The herds were so big that it made it very difficult to work in for a shot on the big bulls.

I think we saw elephant everyday but one, and several days we followed herds for hours. One day 8 hours. Another day we tracked down 3 different bulls.

My goal was 50 lbs. Shot what we think will be 45 lbs on the last day. Saw bigger but could never get in for the shot. It is true elephant hunting and was a great experience and very exciting.

My elephant was one of the biggest bodied elephants we saw, and very old.

I think Vaughn has 2 elephants left this year. Its almost a slam dunk to get one this year. These are Botswana elephants that are swimming from the Chobe National Park to get to food on the Namibia side. Not much rain on the Botswana side this year. Be ready to walk if you book.

Very rewarding to feed a lot of people, the locals eat elephant like we eat chicken.

Thanks for the report and pictures. I am glad to see you had a successful hunt with Vaughan. He is indeed a very fine gentlman.

I sure wish I could help him fill out those last two tags, but I have exceeded my hunting allowance for a while. Frowner

Congratualtions Jeff, any old elephant that one must walk for is a true trophy! Did Vaughan have any estimate of age?

That is a big body. Glad to hear that Vaughan took good care of you. I hear many good things about him and it sounds like his reputation is well deserved.

Any more photos of the ele or area? The Caprivi is pretty interesting.

Congratulations. Great elephant. Vaughan really is a man of his word.

Jeff,

Congratulations on taking a huge old bull elephant.

Vaughan is indeed among the very best of professional hunters and men in general.

I only wish I were in a position to hunt elephant with him again this year.

Jeff, that is a great "First Report". Huge bull!
Those folks are always so happy to be butchering an elephant., and it doesn't take long, does it?
Which part of the Caprivi were you hunting?

Thanks for all the nice comments. Vaughn thinks the elephant is at least 45 most likley older, his words. We were hunting the Salambala Conservancies, almost to the tip of the Caprivi.
Vaughn is great and for those of you who don't know is a new VERY proud father of a little girl. He was on cloud 9 telling me about his new addition, as he should be. I have other pitcures but I am computer idiot. killpc

You can email photos to me at bpettet@gci.net and I can post them for you. There are others here who could also do it.

Super hunt and I agree with the others who say an old bull fairly hunted and paid for in boot leather is an honest trophy, regardless of weight.

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I agree that it's very rewarding to feed so many people. I had the same experience with my big bodied bull. Very good report and pics! Nothing like it!
