Just returned from a safari in Matetsi unit five. The agent was Ron Oliver, the company Mugundumu safaris, the ph Eleckson Ndovlou
A really wild area plenty of Buffaloes, Elephant, Lions ( we saw lions everyday) and plains game ( we saw lot of Kudu, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Impala, Zebra, warthog.)
I hunted a tuskless elephant

a sable
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e359/marionobili/matetsi/sable.jpg
a rare sharpe’s grysbok

My friend Gianni ( yet bench rest world recordmen), got a kudu

a 15,5 inches Reedbuck

a waterbuck

I used a CZ 375 H&H mag, accuratized from Gianni, with 300 grains Barnes Solid and Hornady soft Point. Gianni a Blaser K 95 cal 300 win with match bullets self reloaded.
We saw big buffalo herds (50/100 animals)

with very good bulls inside
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e359/marionobili/matetsi/bigbuff.jpg.

Unfortunately the bulls licenses were finished, so I have shot a nice cow

We saw also a couple of nice elephant bulls ( one about 50 pounds).
An exciting experience, following the elephants cow herds, looking for tuskless, they charged us many times. Also I have wounded the sable and we followed him for four hours inside the Hwange national park.
The ph was excellent as the trackers team.
Nice camp where the Lions roar everinight, with very good facilities and staff services.
Ron Oliver arrived there for a couple of days for looking if all going well, not a common behaviour for an agent. Normally I book directly to the outfitter, but the experience with Ron was very good.

Mario,

Sounds like a nice trip. I'm particularly evious of the Grysbok which has given me the slip many times.

Congratulations, good report and photos. That was super bull buffalo you photographed, I'm sure you were wishing for a tag.. The reedbuck looks exceptional to me. Very good trophies.

Another tuskless hunter...welcome to the club! The sable and grysbok are pretty. The photos of the buffalo bulls are nice too.

thanks guys,
Matetsi unit five seems an excellent place also for a only plain game hunt. We saw about 50 kudus a day and in some areas 100 Waterbuck. In the past I hunted Buffalo in Deka
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e359/marionobili/buffalo2ridotto.jpg
, but it was only a big five hunting area. And normally in the big five areas ther'are few antelopes. Instead in the unit five you can obtain a number of beautiful antelopes.
I was really surprised about the Grysbok. Is the exceptional view of the trackers that gave me the opportunity to shoot an animal so small and difficult to see.
About the Buffaloes, We saw another bull surely bigger, estimated about 43,5 inches from the PH.
The Reedbuck is probably in the top 20.
