Fantastic safari for some of the glamour game of Zambia! When I read buff and plainsgame in the title I wasn't thinking buff, roan, sable, puku! Good stuff there...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

I'm so glad to see in the Chalet picture that Andrew finally moved that toilet roll holder. Big Grin

Now if only he'd lower that mirror the place would be five star. animal

Jan,
Pshaw, no lion could get over that barrier, it looks to be nearly a meter tall!

Looks like you had an absolute ball. Congratulations. tu2

Gotta say, I'd love to have a few days up there with a shotgun, let alone a rifle. The duck shooting simply has to be great in that area! tu2

Stupid question but can someone enlighten me on how the dirt bike is used as "back up?"

Andrew explained that should the lions show-up again, he was going to start it up and shine the head-light on them, expecting the sound, light, and smell of petrol to scare them off. While we were there he got his staff to get it in working order and running.

I don't know if he ever tried it, but he is probably correct.

Problem is that would he have time to get on it and start it before sometime untoward happened?

I believe Andrew has plans to fix the "in camp" lion problems.

Yup!! It's called quota!

The barrel is 26", but nonetheless, the 375 H&H Ackley Improved is an amazing cartridge, when loaded to its potential. I'm using Reloader 17 powder. Moreover, should you get separated from you ammo on your trip to Africa, you can use 375 H&H standard ammo with little loss in performance and even 375 Weatherby ammo, although the latter has been quite hot in my gun.

IMO, it's the ideal African cartridge. All shots at the buffalo were complete pass throughs (mid shoulder region), with the first shot fired at ~100 yds. and the remaining at ~50 yds.

AIU---Sounds like this is my next build I'll PM you for more details soon tu2
