what has our stifling heat got to do with my post. $20,000 for a camping/hiking excursion is still $20,000
Man, if it's really bothering you that much, you can send me cash, check, or money-order---just enough to ease your pain.

Priceless squared!

Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

ddrhookhey steve,
I have a few bottles of home made beer at the house if you need to relieve your thirst. It's not as good as Afican beer but it's not to bad either. Nice pictues as usual

L. David KeithI have never met Steve but we have shared some time over the telephone. Just my humble opinion but I view the man as a Hunter. Sometimes we forget why we're over there. I see myself someday going there just because I love it, and I cherish the time I spend with my friends. We all want to "get our trophies" because we paid good money and we want something in return. Some among us demand it.
One day I opened my eyes and stopped shooting every legal buck I saw. I still love to eat venison, but now I'm very selective about what I take. Doesn't make me anything special, just a Hunter. Sometimes we forget why we hunt, but in the end the Hunter hunts himself. Glad you enjoyed your hunt Steve. Sometimes you get the Bear, sometimes the Bear gets you. Take care, David

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Scott KingSounds like a grand adventure to me.
Some have spent far in excess of $20k to fly into space with the Russians. No trophies taken.
Some have payed grand sums to climb Everest, McKinley, the Matterhorn, no trophies taken.
Some idiots spend much more than 10's of thousands of dollars to possess a trophy commonly known as a baseball card.
I'm envious of your adventure Mr Graves. Seems to be money well spent.

SaeedNo matter how open minded a person is - and Steve has shown this in spades - going hunting, to Africa, and coming back empty handed, must be a disappointment.
And this coming at the same time as the other fiasco posted on the offered hunt forum, White Buffalo Safari would NOT be on my short list of outfits to hunt with.

SGraves155Saeed,
I'm not sure about the importance of the open-minded part, but at least some frustration existed at times. However, the opportunity to hunt the kind of problem lion I was hoping to get to hunt usually only occurs where there are fair numbers of people in villages and where other game is usually in low density. The most important element for success is being able to pick-up-and-go at a moments notice, which is something I can not do at present. I booked thru Gerrie du Preez, a former PH, who had filmed some of the victims last year. I took a chance and came up without success. If I ever want to try it again, I suspect Cabo Del Gado Province, especially the NE part of the Province, will remain one of the most likely areas to have such problems. This report obviously can not be considered a recommendation for a General License African hunting trip; it is just a report of an unsuccessful hunt with some pictures. My interpretation of the reason for the confusion on the Offered Hunts Thread has been given, but perhaps has been overlooked. I did not and do not have any bitterness over the lack of success, but I understand that others might think that I should feel differently.

Bill/OregonSteve: In spite of all the other issues, thanks so much for the lovely photos.

ddrhookYour have to know Steve to know that getting off the plane and walking or riding a few miles and killing game is not him main interest. He is a true sportsman. I have not had the honor of hunting with him. But I can assure you. You could not have a better person to be in camp with. Like the old times used to say here. He's a man I would ride the river with. We have shared many stores and photos.
