or is what's in the gun all you have.

I'll be the first to admit, that I seldom have no more on me than what's in the mag or cylinder. Bad habit, I know, but carrying extra is just too much crap in my pockets. What say you? And don't let BBBruce ruin this forum, Just ignore the bastard and let's keep posting here.

My standard carry gun (goes with me EVERY time I leave home) is a Glock 20 stuffed with Black Talons. I always also take one spare Glock hi-cap loaded magazine with me. Figger if I can't get it done with 31 rounds, I should be able to talk to St. Peter bout a "reprise" while waiting at the P-Gates for either the up or down elevator.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.

The weather down here is normally warm, normal dress is shorts and t-shirt. I don't normally carry extra ammo, just too much stuff in my pockets, but there's a loaded shotgun in the car.

I don't if I'm carrying a revolver. I may carry an extra mag for the Defender in my pocket.

Nope, unless I'm packing my 'Jack Sack' (man purse) I don't have any extras with me. I got more gear in my car. I feel the purpose of a handgun is to allow me to fight my way to a real gun. I'm good for a couple shots and then it's either over or I'm out of there.

That is day in, day out carry for a couple dozen years. If you can pack extra rounds (every day!!!) then good on you.

I always carry spare ammo.
I never carry less than 2 extra 1911 magazines, most often I wear 4 of them.

If I am carrying a 44 Mag or 45 ACP revolver I carry 4 speedloaders/fullmoon clips minimum.

I have a bunch extra in the vehicle.

A handgun is not any good without ammo.

Depends on what I wear. My typical mode of dress is jeans, western shirt, and a vest (no, not one of those tactical "I'm packin' a gun" vest) in which I carry my XD SC with 10-round mag and a spare full-size 16-round mag. If I'm bummin' around in shorts, I will sometimes skip the spare mag and just go with the 11 rounds in the gun IWB. If the shorts are loose enough, I will drop the spare mag in a pocket, but it's not a requirement.

Yes.

One spare magazine for my Colt Lightweight Commander, or one Bianci Speed Strip for my S&W 60 revolver.

Depends. Fanny pack with a Taurus and two speed loaders. 15 rounds total. My wife doesn't carry any extra for hers. If I open carry my Beretta I usually have just the loaded mag in it, 15 also.

A little explanation for why I carry a spare hi-cap mag full for my Glock 20...it's not that I don't think the 16 rounds in the 10 m/m gun won't get the job done. BUT depending on circumstances, it is always possible to accidentally "drop" the mag out of the gun.

In that circumstance, I don't wanna have to look around for where it went, or scrabble around on the ground looking for it and picking it up. I know where the spare is, and can always put it in the gun and cycle the action again faster than finding, picking up, and inserting a mag which fell out. Not that one ever HAS fallen out but, hey, anything is possible. No sense taking un-needed risks.

I always carry an extra 8 round magazine for my 1911. It's easy to just slip it in the back pocket with my ID or put it on my belt in a single mag pouch.

In the truck? That's where my AR-15 goes; and frequently a 12 gauge autoloader with a 10-shot extended tube. I have shot both enough in IPSC matches to have zero concerns RE reliability.

Yeah, me, too, but the 12 ga only has five. They don't make tubes for old SKB's.

One basic reload (one mag or one speedloader) at all times while carrying.

Of course, if I'm expecting trouble...

I don't know if I've ever carried a semi w.o. a spare mag -- it's not about the round count, it's about the mags crapping out. (Anyone who's shot practical pistol long enough has had a mag crap out on him.)

The only time I've ever carried only what's in the gun, has been my 329NG while walking the dog in the middle of the night.

I've become a big believer in shoulder harnesses. While I find them easy to conceal, they're quite a comfortable way to keep a decent size gun and a couple reloads on you around the house.

Honestly, unless I'm just walking the dog, etc, I carry reloads, and two guns on me -- I've seen too many break to ever feel all that comfortable w. just one.

Some twenty plus years ago I saw in the newspapers a sequence of photographs. In the Phillipines I think?

Anyway an off-duty policeman tackled a man armed with a knife. Somehow the policeman used all his six rounds and did not bring the knife guy down.

The sequence was of the knife guy then chasing, catching, stabbing and killing said off-duty policeman.

Here in UK we can't carry even a rolled up newspaper for defence...but if I live in a country where I could I'd always remember that Phillipines off-duty policeman.

My brother who was routinely armed for the last fifteen years of his UK police career used to wear on his belt those superb Bucheimer wrap around pouches that carried six rounds in 2 x 2 x 2 configuration.

In either 2 1/4" duty of 1 3/4" plain clothes belt sizes.

Didn't take up any room at all! Surely if you do carry a revolver in civilian clothes is that really too much effort?

I pack a little compact 38 special-no spares
-normally only pack heat when in strange towns or traveling by car--most of the time I pack no gun on me, and only occasionally pack a knife(I like knifes---nice & quite little killers coffee

in the truck I normally have 40 cal semi with an extra clip and a mini-14 with a 30 rd clip (it is sweet for coyotes!)-but it will do nicely for back-up self defense also. hilbily

home is another story---plenty fire power here beer

I have two reloads for any gun I CCW (although when I carry the Bulldog, that only gives me 10 extra rounds of .44 Spl ammo!).

Usually I carry a CZ75B in .40 (13+12+12)

Sometimes I carry a Colt SS Delta Elite 10mm (9+8+8).
