In the second week of september it was finally time to go to Australia!!!
After a long time travelling (from Holland), i made it to Brisbane, from Brisbane i had a flight to Darwin.

In Darwin Mark (redmist) picked me up from to airport with some other hunters (rifle and bow).
Then after some hours driving we arrived in Daly River( where we did some fishing on barramundi) and saw the first crocs, from there is not very far before we arrived in the Daly River aboriginal reservate, where we would go hunting for a week!

After arriving we build up our camp first!
Then after checking the rifles, we went out for a stalk!!!, on the menu where scrubbuls, waterbuffallo, boars.

After 10 minutes stalking we found fresh tracks of some waterbuffs, follow it we ended at swamps and big billabongs.
We saw some wildhorses on the stalk.

Then after a long stalk we where going back to the camp, to take some dinner and after it some sleep.
Next morning we did the same, stalking around the swamps, following tracks.
Really boar country there.
Here is Mark, on the place where he shot to pigs with 1 shot, then shoot another one on the run!!!

On the way back to the camp in the evening we spotted this fellow!!

A well placed shot with a weatherby did the job.
It was a hell of a job to get the throphy of (with limited tools)

Back to the camp, we spotted some snakes!!!!
And in the camp some BIG spiders!!!!

Next morning again up early, after some driving we spotted a mob off ± 100 waterbuffs and scrubbuls!!!!
The mob went away in the bush!!!
Mark decieded we were going after them!
After 500 meters we spotted 4 scrubbuls who had not follow the group.
Four of us were taking position, and when we where ready, we all fired and had our 4 scrubbuls.

4 weatherby´s and 4 scrubbuls!!!!!!!

After this quick action, we went after the big mob with buffs and scrubbies, after an walk from several km´s we give it up, and walked back to the scrubbuls, collecting the meat that we dropped off at an aboriginal communitie!!!

So it was en exelent week in the NT!!!!

We went to Darwin for some recovering after a week in the bush!!

From Darwin Mark and I drove back to Brisbane, on the way back we stopped at a propertie where Mark normally shoots roo´s.
I could hunt billies and boars there!
In the latest light i could shoot a small billie!

When we left the propertie we got on a mob of camels!!!

Lucky for the camels it was just outside the propertie where Mark hunted, and he had no permission for the propertie the camels where on, so i only shot them with my camera!!!

After a long ride we arrived in Brisbane and my hunting trip was over, it was really a great time, thanks to the redmist team, Mark and Graig!!!!
We are now planning my next trip in 2007, hopefully with my own weatherby 460!!!!!

Hunting piglets and baby goats....the mighty Weatherbys were surely in their element.

A .243 was all that was needed for that trip. stir animal

Thats pretty unfair there Easy. This guy has come half way round the world to hunt buffalo and scrub bulls - i would say he was well prepared for the type of species he was going to hunt .

The fact that he shot a smallish pig and a little goat is entirely secondary to his main reason for being there , and I dont think you need to be desparaging about another guys hunt. Specially not when he has taken the time to post it here for everyone to see.

I say good on you dutchtrapper. Looks like a great trip , some great photos and lots of lifetime memories. Thanks for posting , I enjoyed your experience even if others didnt .

Sorry to ruffle your feathers muzza(not really Big Grin)

It was an "in" joke,Mark hates the .243 and worships his fine collection of Weatherbys. One of which I have had the pleasure of firing....115gns of powder in a 338/378. Eeker

Dutchtrapper, did you manage to get a word in edgeways? lol Looks like you had a lotta fun.

Well the little piggie and the baby goat had a story Wink

The little piggie was the 2 second shot!!!, the first shot was on a standing BIG pig, it was a hitter, on the same shot another pig drops behind it!!!!, then the mob starts to run, and the little pig was hit!!!
I was to lazy to go trough the swamp and mud to take a pic of the pigs Smiler

The baby goat was shot on latest daylight on a pretty far distance!!!!, overhere in Europe is normal to shoot from smaller to bigger!

Been of a lot of places around, but cant wait to go back to Australia clap

Madness - I stand by my comments . My interpretation of Shauns post was that he was belittling the original authors efforts. It still appears that way when I re-read the post . I simply pointed out that that was how I saw it and that I thought it was a bit off to take that approach .

Obviously we have a differing view here , but I dont see that I "jumped the gun" at all .

good on you dutchy old boy, will catch you again next year when we trudge through the swamps.....i didn't think you would ever let go of that 300wby, it appeared to be glued to your hands. by the way the buff was taken with a 378wby 300barnes triple shock and a hand fulll of 2209. the projectile entered the buff quatering away to the right, 3 ribs back from the front leg, penetrated to the off side and lodged in the neck. tried as i did , unable to find the bloody thing, the scrubbies were taken with the 300wby 180gr interbond, 338/378wby 225gr barnes triple shock and the 378wby 300gr triple shock. the interbond was the only projectile recovered from any animals and was completely mushroomed on the off shoulder.
The rifles were mkv except for the 300wby which was a fibre guard model, as seen in the pic with dutchy. fun had by all and great weather.

cheers beer

wish it was mine mate, it is marks. find it no worries and it gets the job done well. not as bad to shoot as my 458 lott, the stock design on the mkv helps with the recoil. the rifle has been used on small stuff and big game, no problems.

cheers cc

yes the hornady interbond in 180gr, not much left of it when recovered, lucky to be 100gr in total. find them a bit soft, but they do as they are claimed too, not seperate. have recovered a few of these from smaller game using a 300wsm, even at close range and they have not exited. not my choice for big game hunting.

cheers cc
