Looks like a good one! What a shame we can't hunt them in India...

Ashok,
I would love to see a sambar in the wild. This looks like a mature stag. Was this picture taken by a relative of yours?
I am considering looking into a hunt in PNG for buffalo. I know they have rusa deer there, but do you know if there are any sambar in PNG?

No sambar in PNG. There are rusa - recorded in the SCI and other books as both Javan and Moluccan (from the same area!!). At the moment (until a genetic study is done) no one really knows what those rusa are. The current outfitters claim that they have both species. but those current outfitters...yeah well...maybe one would ask for a reference from the guy who almost got dead there with them a couple months back!!

Sorry for the OT post.. nice sambar!!

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"
