28 years ago i went down to Gippsland hunting hog deer...I never went again as i concentrated on sambar and fallow deer.
Well after all that time i took an 8 hour drive with an old mate and had six glorious days of hunting hoggies and connected with the only stag that I saw,I did see quite a few other smaller deer and hinds but declined the hind shot although I had a tag for one. Also I was fortunate to get some pics of others like the spikey posted.
Excuse the poor pic of the downed stag and hind but thats indicative of how he fell.

BTW these are free ranging wild animals.

Hoggies are neat little critturs. The stags are pretty ugly in the head department to my eye but they are a neat little deer all the same .

Pretty cool to have the chance to watch them too .

Shame on you for waiting so long between hunts .....

I would think any mature hog-deer is a good deer, but then I don't live near them.

thats a young animal, with real potential, give it a bit of time and see it as a 15 or 16 inch head, it will put you off shooting the young animals

First of all read my post and extract the context of it. I really dont have to explain to you why or what or when I decide to take something out in the field, somewhere I am out in a lot.

You obviously don't understand a great deal do you.
My first reaction after you snide insult was to go through your posts to find something in a photo, well after trolling through five pages I gave up..there were no photos!

Nice one. They are a beautiful little deer. Opportunities to hunt hog deer are limited so any reasonable stag is a good trophy in my opinion. A nice even stag like yours Gryph will make a neat mount.

Yeah as said before - nice one Gryphon!!

M-98 you are a tosser... anyone who denigrates another persons trophies simply cannot call themselves a hunter.

Muzza,
I'm afraid the camera caught gryphon's on a bad day Wink - they are actually one of the 'prettier' deer, with big round eyes. From the front they can look a bit porky, though, hence the name.

Have to stand by my statement guys - Hog deer stags have ugly heads. The females are very pretty , but stags dont do it for me .

Having said that - I do have a hoggy head , euro mounted , not full mount. Mine is about the same size as Gryphs , and I am pretty happy with it , unlikely that I will be back for another.
