Shut down one evening a few weeks ago and as I was walking in front of the plane to raise the hanger door the sky caught my eye! It was almost pink however the picture does not do it justice! Photo was taken with my Blackberry.

Found another one on my phone

Skimming across a cotton field at 160mph. I can obviously see better than the picture shows!!

I've spent a fair bit of time on the Prairies, with the FLAT ground and a little dust in the air the sunsets are some of the best. If your lucky you get that last blast of Red and Gold light. Just awesome, but you do need to carry something better than a Camera phone.

Rusty, Now thats a nice one!!

Bluetick, When the weather breaks we should start defoliating cotton. So far I have only defoliated 600 acres last Friday. We still have some we are treating for insects! The floods this spring caused alot of acreage to be planted late.

As for the wings, I should exceed 1000 hours for the season this year. I will most certainly be glad when it goes to the shop for annual! However I am greatful to have a good job during these tough times!

Really, we are starting to grow a really nice collection of sunsets. Maybe the Aussies have something going in the 'sundowner' tradition?

This is truly turning up some nice and intriguing pictures. I love sunsets.
I have no picture of this to share with you but some years ago we flew over a portion of the Malaspina Glacier and encountered phenomena I have never seen before or since. We were flying probably some 25-28K feet as a guess, in a B727 as I recall, and we were suddenly flying down a ‘tunnel’ for want of a better word – heavy cloud cover below and above us but perfectly clear where we were. No sense of up or down, only indication of anything was a few peaks poking up from below. As stated, I have never seen this before or since and was wondering if there might be a term or name for such a situation.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Trapper I dont know if it is the same thing - probably isn't --

but I once was flying over the Ozark mountains early in the morning and cold moist air in the valleys had formed a cloud layer at the bottom of an inversion.

Also moisture at the top of the inversion cooled the night before and I suppose it had condensed creating an upper level of clouds also.

Im not sure thats what happened but it was my theory at the time.

Heres one quite similar to the specialist's photo. These photos were taken on Leech Lake, northern minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes

I wanted to get the "flash",but as you can see, there was a small amount of cloud cover,in the crucial spot, much like a fig leaf.

I have noted also, the uploaded pics displayed here, are considerably less clear than the same one stored on my computer.

Well, I'm back again! I have to post some up comments and tell you that the last photo posted by 'Namimbiahunter' is absolutely wonderful - when I look at this, I can smell 'morning' - hot coffee, Hoppe's No 9, good leather and wet mud. It don't get no better unless you can hear wings you can't see, smell the dog and have a little sleet in your face - but then you wouldn't see the sun in the clouds!
BTW, I found an outfit online that will take your digital photo and make an oil painting from it, all via the computer. Only problem with the one I looked at was the $$$ - I think they wanted some $400 to take the photo I posted here and make a 16X20 framed print from it.
Anyone know a better price for this treatment?

That was taken with a 35mm film camera out the window of a Cessna. We were homeward bound after a trip to the CAF airshow in Harlingen, Texas about 1985.

Here is another out the window shot taken Dec. 3, 2008.

I found something like this a while back. Instead of a computer doing the painting, Chinese artists do it-- by hand. You get a real piece of art. I seem to recall it was not all that expensive because I wanted a portrait done of my late sister. Maybe I can find the website again...
