All the calibre comparisons got me wondering about the cumulative experience we have on these boards...

Question:
How many shots do you fire at big game animals per annum?

Choices:
0-10
10-20
20-40
40+

Yes, I should have put some more options in the 'over 40' range!

Just goes to show the collective experience we have access to here.

(You will note I didn't ask how many of the shots actually hit!)

Maybe one should be a bit more specific, I mean putting 10 shots into one animal does weird things to the statistics!

Perhaps how many animals taken would be more representative.

My view exactly!

I hope to get into the 10-20 next year.

I would be in the 0-10 category, with 6 or 7 deer per year normally. I could shoot a few more, but I don't like to shoot just to sell to a gamedealer. We are not over run with deer here the way areas of England are.

I have clocked up another 100+ vermin kills per year over the past couple of years with the .222, about 30-40 foxes plus magpies, grey crows and rabbits.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

Poor health this year has reduced me to the 0-10 category, hoping for back to normal next year. I hope everybody is honest, otherwise deer could become extinct in a few counrties in a short time!

Good Poll.

There's bound to be some imbalance; there are certainly those who have opportunities above & beyond what the average Nimrod can avail themselves of. A professional Gamekeeper, Forester, someone with access to hunting property directly at their front door and other professional constraints would all be factors given a reasonable level of Hunting passion, which certainly appears to be present on these pages.

I know one Hunting Buddy who is in the 30+ on Wild Boar annually in his lease - lucky fellow!

Plus differnt types of regional Stalking/Hunting/Shooting opportunities. Driven Hunts, Stand Hunting, Stalking, etc. I keep a Log of shooting opportunities and resutling Game bagged.

Gave up at least a coupla pocketfulls of unsuccessful cartridge cases last year; included in the Season's Driven Wild Boar & Red Deer Hunt Grand Total were at least 3 Clods of Dirt; several mature Beech & Elm Trees, various Twigs, Branches and a Blackberry Thicket (but no Partridge's in a Pear Tree......)

Eeker

Yup, been there, done that. Last weekend I killed a tree in one attempt, and the other resulted in bullet impact way behind piggie, even though I figured I was leading it pretty well...

Shots at running game are not quite as easy as we would all like ... Anyway, I guess we can find some comfort in shared misery... Roll Eyes

I'd like to have the ability to kill at least 80 a year, but that's probably not going to ever happen.

In 2005 I got 19, 3 wild boar in Spain, 14 African animals, 2 pronghorns.

2006 I got 2 roe deer and a mulie.

2007 none! Got 5 split tails though!

Hopefully this year brings some wildboars, elk, deer, and pronghorns.

I guess I average 10 to 12 management does per year on my farm, one whitetail buck, a buffalo of some species, and God love 'em at least 5 of the European Boar. Europe has so much to offer as far as hunting goes, I wish it were eaiser for Yanks to cross the pond and take part in your grand old traditions Smiler.................JJ

Yeah! A bad day of shooting can really run those totals up!
