I finally did it after a lifetime of wanting to get this accomplished it finally happened. Of course you have to live in Germany, and you have to be legal to own firearms in Germany before you can take a class. The Americans in Germany graduate about 60 hunters a year between the 30 military installations.

We graduated 16 jungjagers last night, everyone passed the test and shooting portions. We started the process with 20, but four dropped out within a few weeks. Five women, and 11 men. Half were active duty military the other half were dependents or defense civillians.

We will do 5 years here in Germany, and hopefully we will find a way to do another 5 years some other time.

Congratulations
Pretty cool
Now off to get used to high seats for hours at times ( still better then driven hunts )
Never got used to those driven hunts

I have a new boss that gets off the airplane on Monday. As long as he doesn't screw me over, I am going to the UK for a stalking hunt in on Islay followed by a highseat hunt in Dorset in September.

Beyond that I won't see much hunting until the Spring. I am working hard to get college knocked out, and my wife and kids want a real vacation sometime that will break into the hunting budget.

Next year though, should be amazing!

Congratulations! Nice work.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Congratulations, now I suppose you have kit yourself out with the leather shorts and all before you venture out into the field Big Grin

I obtained an Auslander (Foreigner) Jagdschein while spending a year in West Germany many moons ago. Just had to produce my NZ firearms licence and evidence that I was entitled to hunt in NZ which I did by way of a NZ Forest Service permit to hunt the whole of the South Island of NZ.
Had to pay something like DM25 for liability insurance and then pay the same and get the Jagdschein stamped at the local Forestry Conservancy Office for every two weeks period when I would be hunting.

This was fine as I wasn't hunting all the time and went on planned hunting trips around the place. Did some hunting on my own for roe deer when the village mayor wanted some meat for a festival. He had the hunting area around the particular village I was staying in for a while.

Entirely different culture to mine but great fun.

Wish you good luck with your hunting.

M-F that is pretty bad. It was 125 questions, I got about 7 or 8 wrong. I shot 100% on pistol, 80% on shotgun, and 100% on rifle.

Congratulations Seth.

Question - pistol as part of your Jagdschein?! That must be a military twist or something. Never heard of that in any of the Federal State exams.

Either way congratulations!

Look at the Forstdruckjagden in winter. Usually reasonably priced, large groups and fun.

Charlie, the pistol range was 5 meters. We actually had quite a few fail that part and have to retake it.

I think there is a requirement for all hunters to have access to a pistol for use in following up wounded boar and other game. Have seen the size of some of the boar in mid germany, I would want something a bit bigger than a 9mm pistol if following - 470 NE Double would be ideal.

In northern Germany there are some forest-administrations where you have to pay nothing at the "Drückjagden" or the more modern word "Bewegungsjagden" - and there are lots of red deers, boars, sometimes fallow deer and moufflons - roe deers everywhere.

We have every years clients from GB, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norway, France and some years agoe the protestant bishop of North Dakota shoot a bull stag in my "Revier".

Nope! It is one way to cling to the ownership of handguns. No requirement though. Hunters are allowed two pistols/revolvers.

I just got the paperwork back a few weeks ago, so I finally have a hunting license. I should know in a couple of weeks if we are moving to Bavaria or Spain. I'll start buying a safe and guns once I know.

Hey LHeym500,

Yes, you would probably get a 20-30% on it cold.

Here is what you have to know:

1. Every German game and non-game major mammal species, their litter size, gestation period, diseases, weights, heights, what constitutes a trophy, what are the seasons, and what animals to shoot first, and what to save. As well as the same for game birds, corvids and raptors. Including identification, legal calibers, and the proper equipment to hunt them.

2. Basic butchary for hygiene as game meat is sold in Germany.

3. Land, dog, firearm, hunting, falconry, trapping, feral wildlife, and pet laws that pertain to the German hunter. And where those laws are totally different than the laws everywhere else in Europe.

4. Every breed of legal German gun dogs and their uses, by photograph or description.

5. Every type of firearm and it's function, and every common German caliber and the differences between the 8mm's .323 versus .318 bullets, and what rifles have which bullets. What calibers are legal by joule power for each species.

6. Traditional German hunting clothing.

7. And the majority of the horn calls for wildgame.

8. German hunting protocols. Because God forbid you offend a German hunter.

Oh, I forgot one thing. All of this is in a mix of German and English.

The question will go something like this?

At what age does a Kapitol hersch grow his biggest antlers?

Is a murmeltier legal game in Bayern, what would be the legal caliber?

You are hunting gams in Bayern with a guide, and your rifle is a 6,5x52R, is this legal?

You see a dog kill a rabbit in the revier, and your pachter has given you permission to take care of it. Can you legally?

I'll send you a PM in the morning.

Short answer, NO!

Long answer is about three pages, but I can help you find some things you are after.
