While prose is quite alive, many suggest that poetry, other than Hippie free verse, is dying. The exception is CW lyrics where rhyme and meter are needed and a story must be told, preferrably with a moral. While I am sure we all have a favorite, tongue in cheek or otherwise, mine was crafted by Johnny Paycheck while living in Destin, down the road from me: " The only bright lights she ever saw was the headlights of my truck". Surely some of you have what you feel are even better, and " I've got tears in my ears from laying on my side crying over you" is probably one of them. It will be interesting if Saeed has one.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.-Thomas Jefferson

I am not a Country Western Music kind of person...

When I ever do play it, since I like happy endings, I always play it backwards....

That way, the guy gets his job, his girl, and his dog back. Big Grin dancing

Women the way God meant for them to be. Loretta Lynn, Fist City:

You've been makin' your brags around town that you've been a lovin' with my man
But the man I love when he picks up trash he puts it in a garbage can
And that's what you look like to me and what I see is a pitty
You'd better close your face and stay out of my way
If you don't wanta go to Fist City
If you don't wanna go to Fist City you'd better detour round my town
Cause I'll grab you by the hair of the head and I'll lift you off of the ground
I'm not a sayin' my baby is a saint cause he ain't
And that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you gal to lay off of my man if you don't wanna go to Fist City

Come on and tell me what you told my friends if you think you're brave enough
And I'll show you what a real woman is since you think you're hot stuff
You'll bite off more than you can chew if you get too cute or witty
You better move your feet if you don't wanna eat a meal that's called Fist City
If you don't wanna go to Fist City...
I'm here to tell you gal to lay off of my man if you don't wanna go to Fist City

She called the cops to take me in
And I said "You'll never do it , Friend".
And they just smiled and said "Oh yes we will!".
Now sticks to the head and kicks to the shin
And several bites by Rin Tin Tin
And I couldn't wait to get into that jail.
It was an attitude adjustment, Oh I went along peacefully
Attitude adjustment, They made me clearly see
So my head is black and my legs are blue
And both knee caps are bit clean through
It was an attitude adjustment
Made my whole life look brand new.
YES, SIR. I UNDERSTAND JUST FINE--PERFECTLY

I am glad to see that I ain't the only Hank Jr. fan around here.

here is my favorite and I feel it describes the way I feel about our modern life as best as can be described.

Hank Williams, Jr. Dinosaur Lyrics:

Hey man them ain't high heeled sneakers
And they sure don't look like cowboy boots
And that ain't rock and roll you're playin'
And it sure ain't country or rhythym and blues

You're singin' a song about
makin' love to your drummer
Well gay guitar-pickers don't turn me on
And we don't all get into Donna Summer
Do you happen to know any old Hank Williams songs

Cause you see I'm a dinosaur
I should've died a long time before
Have pity on a dinosaur
Hand me my hat
Excuse me man
But where's the door

It used to be I had a lotta fun in this old hangout
We'd get stoned at The Jukebox and stay outta fights
Now and then we'd light a little
smoke in the truck out back
Aww then a little old Jim Beam and we'd get right

And you know these flashing
lights sure make me dizzy
And this disco's very strange to my ear
It looks like they' ve turned The
Longhorn into a spaceship
And I'll be leavin' just as soon
as I finish this beer

Cause you see I'm a dinosaur
Should've died a long time before
There's a whole lotta dinosaurs
Give us our hats
Excuse me man
But where's the door

Get us our hats
Excuse me man
Where's the door

Even the rocks don't last forever.
