Good metal requires talent and the yungens are more into synthesizing sound than playing instruments. Metal is a lost art these days.

In a word, bollocks.

Metal is to music what a cat nailed to a board, having it's tail played with a tenon saw, is to a violin.

Anyone ever listen to Pat Boone's CD "In A Metal Mood- No More Mr. Niceguy"? Covers of metal tunes done lounge/easy listening style. Richard Cheese does similar takes on metal, hip hop standards- with the x-rated lyrics.

Dunno...

Metal has way too many sub genres and spans a lot of generations to suit everyones tastes...

I'll agreee about most of the popular stuff you'll here played on local radio stations that they call metal...

Most of the bands I listen to are pretty talented... not sure if use of a synth denotes lack of talent...

Im no youngun at 35 either...

Music is like a drug to me... changing my mood etc... some of the above groups mentioned fall into the Hard Rock category by my standards... not that I don't like em... but they just don't set me off...

Mastodon has become a bit of a sell out... but their older albums Remisson and Leviathan are unreal...

By "set me off" I mean fire me up, about like taking a hit off an amonia cap!!! ... i.e. I usually listen to Mastodon when hitting the weights... Brutal, heavy, and unrelenting for sure and not for everyones tastes... But how could the line "split your lungs with blood and thunder" not fire you up...? shit... It makes me want to be right there with Ahab chucking harpoons and screaming "from the heart of hell I stab at thee"!!!!!!!!

I didn't start the thread to discus any particular brand of metal… I really don’t listen to much Hair Metal myself… to each his own I’m not one to criticize others taste…

No offense intended to any other posters but these lines from GWAR’s “Metal Metal Land” come to mind…

Filthy hair and dirty faces
Flying V's and swords and maces
80's hair bands are still hated
No false metal tolerated

The rest of the lyrics are quite funny...

Ha Ha…

Again to each his own…

Here are some lines from Metallica’s Whisky in The Jar (not a fan of Garage Inc BTW)…

Some men like a fishing
Some men like a fowling
Some men like to hear the cannon ball a roaring

I fall into the later category…

I prefer audible lyrics, if any…
I prefer melodic styles of metal…
I do like themed albums and bands (i.e. Leviathan being based on Moby Dick)…
But it must be heavy, brutal, and basically be the equivalent of amphetamines for my ears!!!
