Jeff-Ernie at Badger is supposed to be close to
be able to deliver 4bore barrels at the bore size we figured out to fit Naval Ord .998
bullets, and my cases built from 20mm brass.
And he can use up 15 tons of barrel stock,
that he had left after building 25mm Bradley
barrels. We had to change rifling to a slower twist and less debth, than the military
stuff, and bore size came out perfect. He can profile barrels, or leave them straight, up to
34 inches long. I am contacting him next week
to place order and get him going. We are still trying to find someone to make a reasonable priced break action for them.Ed.

Ed,

That sure would make a really neat 1" Gatling gun. Or a scaled down Maxim Pom-Pom. Then it would be real easy to put some wheels under it. I suspect that atf would Frowner on it. Damn them for interfering with some serious fun.

Ed, that is exactly what I was thinking of. However, that rifle needs a 34mm tube scope so that it will not look so puny.

In a 4 bore a single shot seems appropriate. Who would want to pull the trigger more than once?

That action is big enough to make the 50 BMG an real pussycat on a 36" barrel with and with no muzzle break. This wopuld be alot easier to feed than a 4 bore. Granted, not as much of a WOW factor though.

Sir Samuel Baker had one of those too-he called it "Baby" and his Arab trackers called it Jinnah-al-Mutfa", or Son of a Cannon. Pasha Baker said "baby" gave hinm a severe headache and a nosebleed every time he deigned to fire it. He ended his life as a brain-dead punch-drunk slobbering fool-too many concussions from his 2-Bore!!

Shooting such a cannon does not sound too smart to me!! Kinda like going ten rounds with the World's heavyweight boxing champion.

That's me in the photo above. I'm acquainted with the owner, and the gentlemen whom initially commisioned them; I believe he has since sold his. While they don't often talk about it, there was also a smokeless 2-bore built. It weighs 28 pounds, and their "working load" was a 3400 grain ball at 1400 fps. It was fired once with a load that pushed that same ball 1750 fps.

A bit steep at a mere 250k! Don't know any more details on these, they're the only farquarson 4 bores I've heard of. That action make a BIG rifle even bigger and more unwieldly, but mass is definitely your friend. I think the Jones/back action or bar action would be handier, but I guess that's a relative term!

Jeffe,

I wish I could tell you I shot it. Heck, I wish I could tell you I saw someone else shoot it. The owner usually doesn't let anyone shoot it for fear of injuries. When that photo was taken, the gun had been mis-firing. He said until he got it fixed, he just couldn't handle not knowing whether it was going to go off when he pulled the trigger.

I'm sketchy on the details, but it broke several of his ribs the following year.

I don't have any contact information for Clayton, but I know who might. Look for a PM.

Ed,

I still lurk on a pretty regular basis. I need to talk to you about your Savage project. I'm thinking it could make one heck of a 12-bore rifle using the Magtech brass cases. LBT is apparently offering a mold that duplicates the old Holland 12-bore bullet. No need to alter the barrel, just need to add some weight.

As far as I know he still owns it; I haven't seen him for a couple of years. Last summer I missed the big get-together; that's when he was recovering from the broken ribs. This year I made it but he didn't. It's way out of my league, but I'm curious what he wanted for it.

Do you know where the 2nd one is? I know JR had one for sale several years ago, but I don't know if that's the one in the picture or if that was its mate.

Cannon-Kent said that the his
was the mate to one John had.Only two built
according to him.Now we are also checking on
another places to maybe find a FB to scale up.

As for the Savage 210 and our 12GA Fh project,
we are getting reamer around.Rest of gun
is ready with heavy barrel, weighted stock,
and weighing 25 lbs.

The idea you mention about using magtech cases will allow a little more velocity,BUT the original barrel won't allow much more. You need a heavy barrel, that is large enough to have a shoulder butting against reciever, and
the same diameter as reciever, and heavy all the way to the muzzle. And longer of course.
And more wt in stock with a good pad.Ed.

Ed, Mark Serbu reportedly has done the R&D for a scaled up version of his single shot bolt action BFG 50 BMG rifle to 20mm. A 20mm bolt would make the brass prep a lot easier. Who knows when he will actually make it though. I wonder if any of the guys making the bolt action 50 BMG AR15 uppers such as the Ferret 50 would be interested in a 20mm version? I broke down and bought a Serbu BFG 50 this year. If he ever makes the 20mm version, I would certainly consider it as an option even though a break action or falling block would seem like a more traditional style for my tastes.

Mike--There is one already that can be used,
and for testing and my use,
I will use State Arms shellholder bmg action,
that I get for my 700HE and just buy extra bolt for a hundred and machine it out to fit my 4 bore rim.And switch barrels. My case can work in a bolt as well as in a break action or big falling block.
It is a rimmed case, with rim same size as
20mm, but has extractor groove so as to work in bolt action. And the case is strong able to take
70k loads if you want. And the State Arms action
is super strong. And it has a decent style.
But in the long run we want to get the it in break and falling block actions, that are affordable like the State Arms action($850).
We are checking on a bunch of possible falling blocks to scale up, with some of our resident
big bore nuts planning on seeing if they can build them. Ed.
