Mine is going to be a 458 Lott in a accurate innovations stock, oil finished. quarter rib with negc 50 and 100 yard rear sites. I like the look of banded ramp sites for the front. I might have the bridges milled for talley QDR rings, not sure yet. I don' know what kind of pad, but I want something that will shoulder smooth, and cushion at the same time.

This is going to be my first big bore, I'm stepping up from a 300 ultra mag. So if you have any advise I'm all ears.

I'm building a .450 Rigby with one action. 24" Lilja barrel with barrel band swivel, NECG quarter rib with hooded barrel band front sight on a piece of 3X English Walnut in classic safari style with pancake cheekpiece (shadowline of course). Ebony forend, Decelerator pad, 14" LOP cerakoted matte black with Sunny hill drop box! Did I leave anything out?

IB404,
How is Mr. Davenport since his surgery late last year? I was going to have him build me a 458 Lott and he was incapacitated at the time. Hope he is fully healed... he is a heck of a talent and I really enjoy the .416 Rigby and .375 he built for me.

I tend to side with Boom Stick here...

But, but........................416 and 450 Rigbys, and a 550 magnum would look good on the front row.
23" barrels, tulip round to octagon after 1/2" in front of the receiver, integral milled quarter rib, goes round at the end of the wood, barrel band swivel, barrel band front sight, NECG 3 leaf sights, 1standing, 2 folding, !" bbl diameter at muzzle, VAIS brakes (his new patented model) and 1/4" threaded cap for the muzzles when brake is not in use (bench testing)
buffalo horn forend cap, black decelerator Pachmayr pad, grip cap w/my initials, and checkering.

Options: cartridge trap? Integral rib cut for scout style scope.

If they become available, I will pay the higher retail price instead of the discounted pre-order price because I want to see one before I leap. But assuming all is well with the action, and assuming there is a stock duplicator out there who can rough cut stocks for them, then:

21" barrel
NECG sights
barrel band sling stud
1/4 rib
plain English walnut

But I hope like they don't drill holes in the receiver for scope bases, but that would nix the whole project.

Dan,
the "plan" is no holes drilled from bases.. IIRC, I said words to the effect of "buttugly" to dan on those.

grains...you could sell it quick if you didnt like it and even make a couple hundred bucks all said and done...thats a couple range going costs. if you didnt like it you could just build a non traditional circus gun like the t-rex ect. for shits and giggles.

Billy,
Keith can make you the custom ears to mount your ipod buds on.. and i'll get one of the browning mechical recoil reducers... pad needs to be about 2.25" wide!!!!

need one of those "clamshell" brakes on there, since you aren't doing sights...

and a laser/flashlight on the front rail.. with a bayounet/beer opener mount!

heck, i'll even rig you an internet hunting mount for it... so you can dial in from your celphone and do your hunting with a joystick while the AC is running

Like triggertate, I am skeptical. There is no evidence that we are an inch closer to having these actions than we were 4 years ago. I hope I am wrong, and I hope these actions are top quality and wildly successful. But I am not going to get my hopes up just yet.

Does MRC even have stainless on the table as an option? I would think for simplicity that MRC would make the initial run in chromoly only.

I'm still on the fence if I should sign up for one or two as I would also like to see them in the flesh first. But a .416 & .450 Rigby would be nice. Or a .416 & .470 Rigby combo..

I'm still visualizing (in my head, since there's plenty of room available) that tasteful blend of weatherby retro-baroque and lawson thumbhole stock
design. I have a 26-year old oversized #3 creosoted Juniper fence post that has been seasoning out on the ranch in readiness...if it is cut right I may be able to get two crossgrain blanks. I think hickory for the forend and grip cap, and random skipline checkering. Due to recoil concerns I will likely have the checkerer flatten every other to every third diamond.

regards,

Rich

How does 500mbogo or 500a2 or 510KE sound with 22" barrel, mcmillian fiberglass, peep sight, packerized. Somewhere around 10-11 lbs. Any thoughts on the bottom metal? Oh, and the thickest recoil pad I can fit on there, f990.

i had a question about fiberglass stocks and the p.h. action...would it work???

the 500a2 would be the least hassle but most boring except when you pull the trigger, they all would be the same fun.
