I'm trying to go with a classic style for my 416 Rigby project. I like the looks of jeffeosso's 470 AR and then I saw a rosewood tip and both intrigue me. Which, say you, would conform to to Rigby purity?

I know I posted before that I'm going laminate, but I said to hell with it and want looks as well as power.

Going with a quarter rib rear sight, barrel band, ramped front sight, straight floor plate and a straight bolt handle ( it's a p-17)

I've used walnut stump wood, rosewood, cocobolo, and ebony. But when one says classic there is only two options.
1. totally black ebony
2. nothing at all.

This is my hunting and camp knife, well one of them Big Grin

This knife is also BIG BORE.
9 3/4" blade, 3/8" thick convex forged by MS Doug Noren one tough cutting and chopping machine Eeker
When you show up with a .500 Jeffery people expect a knife to match the rifle.

Nice rifle, fabulous pickture.
And, for those who are not familliar with the EAW mounts, it shows how high it mounts the small ones. That is as low as they get.
But there is no scope mount in the world as fast and simple to operate with one hand.

Ed Plummer of AHR has used African Blackwood (at least that's what he calls it) on a few of my rifles.

It's not quite as black as ebony, but it's very black - much darker than rosewood - and it shows some grain on close inspection.

I like it.

This is the EAW XS mount, super strong build.

I would not use the rifle with scope for DG but might use it for a zebra or other big game at 100-200 m.

Cheers,

André

I agree,

I like the idea of seeing a little grain in the tip wood...be it Ebony, African Blackwood, or even African Wenge like I used on my rifle.

Seeing a little grain tells you it's wood and gives it the warmth and feel only wood can give

I bought some blackwood at Ed's suggestion and I like it too. It glues well and the figure is very close to Gabon ebony that has just a faint touch of brown grain in it. If the finish is glossy, the glare is enough to hide the grain and make it look jet black.

For tradition's sake I like horn. I have a custom Winchester 52 Sporter in process with horn on both ends and a horn tip for a mannlicher-stocked 30-40 Krag I have yet to start. Like Gringo Cazador, I thought about the mannlicher for a long time. Finally getting statred.

I also like Ebony with a hint of contrast. The tip on my 375 is jet black and it looks like plastic unless you look at in in direct sunlight so that you can see the grain.

Last week I purchased .6bf of ebony with a bit of gray streaking. I cant wait to get this on to a stock.

It's your rifle and the only one you have to please is your self. If rosewood makes your heart flutter then go for it. IMHO the only way to go is ebony. Anything else other than plain wood looks too southern California style for me.
