Is there anything wrong with seating a bullet so
deeply that it's tip does not even protrude beyond
the case mouth? Say you're just downloading your
425 Westley Richards or your 500 AR or 577 NE,
etc. Of course powder quantity will be reduced.
Thank you.

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

It might work in some cases, but in most cases (yes the pun intended) you either could not force the projectile into the case or there would be no way to crimp it

Use trailboss or filler... Or lathe turn reduced capacity cases

To use regular powders and slower speeds
in the 585HE we can load lighter, if we don't want to
use small loads of specialty powder with large airspace,
by using 24ga wads to fill up airspace
and hjust use less of the regular powders.
Works great, just as accurate 90% plus fill loads.Ed

Folks have determine down on the DR forum that 'backer rod' (used in cement work) cut to length will consume the extra space in their long NE cases without increasing pressure. Very cheap and easily obtained at places like Lowes, Home Depot, and similar stores. No reason you couldn't use the backer rod in your reduced loads to keep the powder against the primer.

This is the first of have read of backer rod.
Fillers are often associated with chamber ringing.
While I have never ringed a chamber I do use SR4759 to take up a lot of space with reduced velocity loads.

Consider the forces involved on the rifling and bullet.

Ringing can oocure with loose fill, by bunching
up into a ball forming a temperary plug.

That is why I like 24 ga wads in 585 as they compress evenly without balling up, and
help moderate peak pressures a little like
in shotgun loads. And the wads can travel down
the barrel at any speeds you want.ED
