Attached are some photos from today's trip to the range. Guns being used were Ruger M77 (.470 AR), Heym M88 (.470 Nitro), CZ 550 (.416 Rigby) and Ruger SM (.458 Lott). The shooters were myself, Texas Hunter and Jeffeosso.

A couple of observations. First, the .470 AR is a sweet round. Felt recoil is less than the .470 Nitro and accuracy is excellent. Second, for those that question the accuracy of the CZ's check out the targets below. Not bad for the rifle's first trip to the range. Finally, cold weather can definitely effect the accuracy of a double. The Heym normally shoots 2" groups, but today's temps in the 30's/40's opened the groups up considerably.

Mike,

Glad to hear that y'all had a good time at the range this AM. I see that you choose to photograph jeffeosso's "Good side" clap. It was easier on your camera animal

The .470 AR was there and performing admirably. Great accuracy and recoil akin to a .17 HMR, well maybe a .223. Seriously, that caliber has surprisingly modest recoil for that bullet weight (400 grain) and velocity (2400 fps). Did I get the velocity right Jeffe?

I think it's 2300 fps for the .470 AR. But yes, the .470 AR's recoil is very manageable. Jeff's rifle weighs about 2-3 lbs. less than my scoped .458 Lott RSM, yet recoil was about the same. I suspect if the .470 AR weighed as much as my Lott, it would be a pussdycat. Nice peep sight Jeff and thanks for letting me shoot your .470 AR.

Russell,
you got it... 400 at 2300... though as cold as as it was when we got there (was 26 on my back porch when I left the house), I am surprised that they stayed supersonic !!!

Only your wife knows if that is true.

With that coat on, and that side, you look more like a big ol' post oak.
