The .395 Tatanka was started around the idea of getting a bullet made by GSC. It was the .395/340-grain HV, copper hollowpoint.
I finally killed something with it.

prof242, aka Max, scooped that with the .395 Ruger Max. He killed a cow elk with Macifej's .395/310-grain VeloHex Brass SHARRC "Hexploding" hollowpoint. Works a lot like Saeed's Walterhog.

Hopefully I will take a deer next weekend with VeloHex. Gotta stick to seniority rules.

A big-bodied, small antlered, 8-pointer-wannabe, basket-racked, 2-1/2 year-old buck was slain 1/2 hour after I got into the tree on opening day of modern gun season in Kentucky, today. Deer near Nebo, KY may be a subspecies of the white tail deer called Rackis basketus.

Q-sign: The deer was shot at about 40 yards range, through the heart, transecting the mitral valve and exploding a chunk out of both left ventricle and left atrium. A triangle of lung was sticking out the offside as he ran 50 yards as if merely spooked by the noise of the shot. Then he went from full gallop mode to dead bug mode with all four legs pointing skyward in an instant as he crossed the 50-yard dash line. He slid into home plate on his back!.

I still have not sanded off the saggy gray epoxy and paint from this MPI stock, and repainted it with a smoother "hammered finish" brown paint, with the gritty texture paint in brown on the grip panels only ... but I shall. Too many projects!

His carcass butchered to this stage weighed 160 lbs. I think he was well over 200 lbs on the hoof.
