Just something interesting I saw in Bear Hunting magazine:

Cross Outdoors

I wonder what the 500 Kodiak is based on? If it's a rimless straight walled cartridge like it appears, could he really be headspacing off the mouth?? Looks like nice rifles, but a bit spendy. With that kind of weight, they have to be a bit much in recoil, unless the cartridge ballistics compare to 45-70 Marlin loads.

Anyone seen his stuff in person or have any more info?

You have aroused my curiousity. I miked the two cases. the 450 Marlin was 1.065" long and the 500K was 1.155" both vague. Divide the 2.1 of the 450M by 1.065" and you get 1.97 times as long.
Do the 500K by the same math and you get a case that looks to me to be 2.27" long.

Option A: take a 50-110/348W case it mikes .543" at the base and is 2.4" long. You could turn the rims off, cut an extractor groove in it, cut it to that 2.27" length and have a straight taper case that miked .543 at the base and mouth, and would have .020" thick casemouths. Plenty of brass thickness to do that, and you could get any brass mfgr that is making 348/50-110 brass to make your cases rather cheaply. Think of it as a 50-110 short rimless case. Clever, if that is the answer or close to it.
Option B: take the 50 Action Express, which coincidentally, happens to have a .515" rim diameter, and simply stretch it an additional inch. It works almost to the .001" based on the picture.

Two easy opinions to consider. Either way, or a third way, my hat is off to the man.

i think it is a good solution for all those wsm guns out there that wont have any ammo or brass in the next few years Big Grin

shooting those 375 gr .500 bullets @ 2600 fps is a damn neeto pig/deer/moose/elk gun.

his whole philosophy was to have a 50 cal that the average guy could afford and afford to shoot with the cheap pistol bullets. i think he needs to make a 505 for the safari bound guy with expensive bullet tastes.

el jeffe...

he loved the a.r. carts when i described them to him. you should call him. reeeely nice guy. he is making one left hand for craig boddington and is gunna get some press soon once the preasure work is done. the headspace is the same as the 470 a.r. so cant be that bad...

to make one on the encore pro would be easy since it has the 500 tube already.

i would think you would like a 500@2150 or 505.

yes the s.d. of the xpbs suck but it aint for buff its for speed and a big hole but you are just stir

It would hammer a pig or deer like a freight train... I handed craig a 550 express and 470 AR at DSC... he liked them!!

the 470 ar is .036... Tom and I looked HARD at the .500, .505, and .510... and just couldn't make ourselves do it!! ONLY the .500 would even come close...

Looks like boomer is right on top of things! I thought they looked pretty cool, myself. Maybe we can get him to start posting on AR with the rest of the big bore nuts...

I agree, they are not for buffalo, but what they would do to a bear/deer/boar!
