This serves notice of the RIPoff claim for noproprietary status for the .404 Aagaard.
The ultimate African Sheep Rifle cartridge is hereby released to the gun trade. Wink

Move over .416 Aagaard (.416/.376 Steyr).

As soon as the .375 Ruger brass is available from Hornady, and the .375 Ruger chamber specs are available for one of the Dave's to make a reamer, the final addition to the RIPoff Line of cartridges will be accomplished.

McGowen stainless 1:10" twist barrel, 23" long and 0.675" muzzle diameter, Ruger M77MkII action, synthetic stock. Aiming for 7 pounds bare weight.

Here is the sheep bullet for the .404 Aagaard:

Someday, surely, Hornady will make .375 Ruger basic/cylindrical brass, with only the Hornady "H" as the head stamp. What a boon to wildcatters and Mauser Meisters that will be. cheers

I guess the capacity to be something like a 375 weatherby... smaller than a rum, but bigger than a 375HH... and certainly larger than a 416 taylor... so the guess is directionaly right...

I still think this is a better DOWN case than UP, but I am darn happy that it's to be the 375 ruger (keeps me from doing the 375 ar) and the 404 Ruger (which keeps me from doing a .423)...

and, i WANT it to be a 358 ruger and 338 ruger.

Ron,
I appreciate your naming on this... but a 416 aagaard would drop right in the chamber, and go off... 404 ruger, certainly

or 404 ripper

Jeffe,
The .416 Aagaard is the .416/.376 Steyr, and is way skinnier and shorter than the .423/.375 Ruger (.404 Aagaard). It would rattle around in the chamber and have about 0.2" of free travel in the chamber from breech face to shoulder area. I doubt you could set one off by pulling the trigger on one in the wrong rifle, and the .416 caliber bullet in a .423 caliber barrel would hardly create a barrel obstruction.

However, that .416 Aagaard is such a commonly encountered cartridge that some bubba is bound to pick some up at Wal Mart and try to shoot some of it in his .404 Aagaard, eh? Is that what you are trying to tell me? Wink

Boomie,
That name is already taken, and it shoots a .411 bullet with a full length .375 H&H case. Bruce woods did it in 1992, long before H&H had their 400 H&H. Look in the A-Square manual.

You'll have to call yours the ".411 Pondoro."

Now as for the .416/.375 Ruger, I was thinking: ".416 Finn"

The .416 Finn and the .404 Aagaard would make quite the nice redundant pair for a safari battery.

However, the .416 Finn could be even more dangerous, if mixed up with .416 Aagaard ammo. Wink

And just think if Bubba tried to fire some .404 Aagaard in a .416 Finn. Eeker

Hmmm.

Sounds interesting. But I was wondering RIP about the twist rate? Are you sure that a 10" twist will cut it?

Is there anybody on this sight who has an opinon on twist rates? Wink
