RGB 730gr Missile-900gr AHR Kodiak Soft-900gr Barnes Banded Solid To be fired in this rifle: Just trying to figure out a way to shoot it this weekend without winding up a target myself (it is Mother's day on Sunday, after all). Question for RGB. The faster the bullet the smaller the meplat needed? Just thinking that a smaller meplat is needed at 3000 fps vs 2000 fps. cuzz of the force of the deflected media creating the bubble. Is this correct terminal affect thinking? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

Your gonna have fun! I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is to shoot. What load did you go with on the 730's?--Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

The suggestion you had emailed me with the 7828 for a handfull and a few other loads with Retumbo, H414, W760 and Ramshot BigBoy. Should give me velocities in the 1,900 to 2,400 fps at pretty low operating pressures. Paul, I've been traveling this week so I didn't keep up on the sight, but congratulations on a beauty of a rifle. You will love it. I always love looking at these big beauties and I love those bullets of Robs. You must give us a full report on how those bullets shoot, penetrate, feed, cavity pics, everything. One question---Did you get the muzzle brake? I don't see the stuff for one? Again, welcome to the truly BIG BORE world. I've killed with a lot of large calibers, but as Rob says, I have never seen the level of destuction like this round causes even with solids. Joe

Joe and All, The washing machine is dead!!! Drove two hours leaving only an hour to shoot then had to drive back ... but on the way picked up a watermellon ... Had 20 cartridges loaded with a variety of powders and bullets as shown in the picture above. First three shots - avg velocity with 900gr Kodiaks was 1,853fps out of my 23"bbl 13.5lbAHR-built 600 OK. Second three, same bullet different load 2,118fps. Recoil was quite manageable - actually much better than I thought, but stout. THEN I realized I forgot to put the X-brake on! Since the next few were stouter yet, I thought it a good idea to add it. Man that thing really works. 2,270 and 2,343fps were avg velocities with the next strings of 3 each - nothing too bad in terms of recoil I have to admit. Did the same with Barnes Banded Solids and again similar velocities and certainly manageable recoil. Tried three light loads with RGB's 730s and it was almost like shooting a .22. Loaded two at 2,400fps and these were pretty light in terms of refcoil and even the single load at 2,700fps was perfectly fine. Accuracy - I shot a string of three to finish up (900gr Kodiaks at 2,170fps avg) for a 3" group off hand at 50 yards. I didn't think this too bad for a new gun in rushed circumstances at the end of a 20-round string in less than 25 minutes. Took video - unfortunately all you can see is me and the rifle - had to perch the camera on the bumper of the H3 and prop it up with sticks but at least you can see me (and my fat ass) roll with the recoil and see the difference with and without the brake. I also shot the watermellon and did get that on video - nice !!! Penetration - thought about it whe3n I had one of Rob's 730gr missiles and the string of Kodiaks I mentioned above. Rob's bullet penetrated 16" of living tree and kept on going into a mountain of dirt who knows how deeply. Can't say anything about expansion as I didn't have the cahnce to get and set up the bullet catcher as was suggested in another thread. Next time. Everything went through the washing machine including the cement as if it was paper. Lots of big holes in it now! After this string of 20 600 OKs, I shot a string of 20 .416 WBY mags in the next 15 minutes and the recoil was clearly better managed with AHR's stock and brake. Even unbraked (at reasonable velocities) the AHR felt better than the 9 1/2 lb Weatherby (which I do love, but have to be honest with myself and you guys here). Neither rifle was scoped for this outing but will be next time they will. Will post some video later if I have time and put link in here somewhere. I am thrilled with this rifle and the cartridge. Rob (Robgunbuilder) you are an awesome cartridge designer and this baby is simply the best. Wayne (Bitterroot) and Ed, your work is superb and the rifle looks and shoots incredibly. Don't laugh too hard. Yes, that is me and yes my pants are sagging but here are some videos as promised for all to get a good laugh at. The first - forgot to put the brake on. Second is against a charging watermellon inside a highway cone (I wanted to stand the mellon on the cone, but it was so heavy it kept collapsing the cone). The last is with the brake on and about midway through you can see the difference in recoil using Rob's lighter 730gr conicals. 1st few shots Charging Watermellon Braked with Heavy and Light loads 16" diameter tree with Rob's 730gr missile: NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

Hooray Doc, I thought that Watermelon was going to charge for a minute. You could really tell the difference in recoil of the various loads. The shock wave was clearly visible coming from the brake also. Good thing you will be back at Critical Care on Monday, your shoulder may need it.

Nah, I it weren't Mother's Day and I had the time, I would be loading the other 80 shells and heading back there. The weather is perfect again today and I feel really good. You did a great job on this - I won't be using the brake when I take it hunting but will for future target practice Mellons beware! CCM Doc ;;Another beautiful rifle from AHR , Congratulations ,, Good shooting .... You can hear how big the rounds are when you chamber up and eject them ......Recoil with the RGB bullet was amazingly minimized with the brake .... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Paul Awesome! You can take ALOT of the sting out by squaring a little more, and letting your body rotate, like judo, with the recoil. let it turn you right and back, which will reduce the UP part. jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Thanks Jeffe and Rob (who gave me some advice via email). Like all of us, I have to work within my abilities and disabilities. Several injuries prevent me from holding much weight on an outstretched left hand - as it would be if I were more square. Someday I might have the time to get that arm fixed, but for now, gotta work with what I have Thanks again for the support and advice. I just saw the vid and I could tell you are scared to bring that thing up to your shoulder so you can look through the sights.I could also see the difference in recoil with and without the break. The recoil without the break seems really bad.
