I have a Ruger M77 in .375 H&H and it is my favorite rifle and far above the rest.

What is this a custom build? I though the M77 was too short for H&H length rounds.

My Ruger M77 RSM magnums have the same size action as my CZ 550 magnum or at least it appears the same, side by side, to me.

Had a CS Safari Classic in 375 H&H, rebarreled it to 500 Jeffery, so now I'm waiting for Winchester to come out with an extreme weather M70 in 375 H&H.

I can easily believe that as the Hudson Valley produces a unique force which drives the .375 bullets together. The only cloverleaf group I shot with the above pictured Sako was indeed fired there!

375 Ruger, in a OMG, wait for it, Howa 1500. Roll Eyes

One day, I'd love to build a 9.5x66 Vom Hofe. Not sure why, but those weird Euro-metrics have always held a lot of appeal to me.

OK, I thought the M77 came in two lengths not three. Short for 250 savage length and standard for the 30-06 length. And, that, the RSM, a magnum length, was considered a unique design. There was a time you could get the M77 in 458Win that was some kind of Safari grade, and that was a standard length action. I was wondering if they ever shoe horn a 375 into that gun?

When 500straight refers to an M77 in 375 he apparently meant the RSM. Makes sense, I did not know the RSM were considered M77's. [edit, I just got a look at 2010 catalog at dealer today and 500Straight is right, I guess I dont know what I had]

I guess the RSM is close in size, but just enough smaller than the CZ magnum, that it requires impractical extreme effort to skeletonize an RSM to take the 505 Gibbs- As posted elsewhere here in AR.

I used too think, a shame the RSM was not a tad larger, but since it been dropped by Ruger, no longer a concern. Now, they can focus on low cost plastic stocked guns.

I am elated to see these poll results indicate the vast majority (a silent majority? ) still favor the old classic rather than latest modern convenience made to fit.

Long live the classics!

One Whitworth
One Win Model 70
One Remington 700

The Whitworth feels and carries best for me. They all shoot well, bedded, trigger jobs, etc.

Oops, am now down to only 10 rifles of .375 caliber. Scratch the last remaining .375 H&H here, and convert that to a .395 H&H.
Still have plenty of .375 Wbys for burning up .375 H&H ammo to good effect. Cool

A .375 H&H on a M-70 Stainless, Classic action restocked in a Mac Milan.

It is the finest no BS working mans do everything rifle ever conceived by mankind. I've killed over a dozen elk with it, caribou, deer, Bison x 5 or 6, multiple hundreds of wild hogs, dozens of coyotes, warthog, zebra, kudu, oryx, wildebeest of several species, cape buffalo and I'm sure others that I'm not remembering right now.

The .375H&H is my favorite all around cartridge and the one I keep garbing when I walk out the door to hunt.

The 375 has been the de facto standard for almost a 100 years now. It served hunters well in Africa and has earned a good reputation especially with the premium bullets that we enjoyed the last decade or so. It is the minimum DG caliber in most African countries with a few exceptions being the 9,3x62 mm in some countries such as Zimbabwe, et al.

This does not take away anything from all the other .375's. Each one of them I am sure will claim some sort of niche market and certain design features that they pride themselves on. The 375 H&H had an early start and there are so many of them floating around and to be inherited by the next generation that I can hardly see how they can lose their No. 1 position anytime soon.

The 375 Ruger has certainly a nice cartridge case and is a dandy newcomer on the scene. Likewise the 375 Wby Magnums have their staunch supporters as they believe they have a longer reach and their bullet hits harder at all ranges - a motto that Roy Weatherby propagated, which may be true for Solids, but not true for frangible Softs that shed weight and shatter at velocities exceeding the threshold strength of a Soft. Even in the early days the 375 H&H and the 9,3x64 mm (they had similar velocities) were plagued with bullet break-ups with thinly jacketed unbonded Softs such as Kynoch ammo. Today we have much better controlled expansion bullets with a wider operating velocity window.

Ultimately the ready availability of ammo and components (bullets & cases) will determine the longevity of any cartridge, and particularly so here in Africa. The new Arms Bill basically slaughtered 80% plus gun shops and the market is still in a depressed state for one with limitations of the number of rifles one can own.

But it would be interesting see the sales of new 375 bore rifles.

On Australia's main guns/hunting forum I would say the 375 Ruger is well in front of the 375 H&H for new rifles being purchased. Undoubtedly this is due to the Ruger rifle itself as compared to the CZ in 375 H&H. Not many M70 375s come to Australia and they are more expensive than Ruger and CZ. Strange as it might seem but Winchester Australia is the import agent for CZ Smiler

Used to own a 378 Weatherby - dogs loved it with all the bruised and bloodied meat they ate. 375 HNH does it all here in Africa, from plainsgame to the big boys. Been hunting with mine since 1991, everything I shot went down or had a good blood trail to follow. Why fix something that's not broken?
