Seems like the past 3 summers I have wrestled with turning my Spruce King into the 458 AR . My goal is 2800 fps with a 300 gr Barnes TSX with very reasonable pressures ....... A serious Red Mister !

What say ye ???

Nope!

I push a Rigby w 350 Barnes Xs to 2700 fps and it gave me 6+ feet of penetration on a Cape Buffalo.

The moderate load I took to Africa for the 22" .458 AR was 425 gr Rhino solid shank bonded core bullets at 2400 fps. Sight-in on a bench there gave me a group with the rounds touching each other. Got 4+ feet of penetration at 181 yards on a big Eland and a HAMMER job DRT on a Wildebeast at 60 yards.

No complaints from me Wink

The rifle I,m contemplating altering is my primary rifle and If I only had 1 firearm it would be this one ..I,ve killed lots and lots of animals with it from crows to brown bear ... I,ve always wanted more velocity from it tho . Don,t know that I need it , but I want it . And the AR is what seems to be the best route ....

I've done some 3002 ad 320 gr "flying hollowpoints" at or past 2700 and got bored.. that is, i had to both load safely and not run out of a limited number of bullets.

recoil tends to get a little sharp/quick at about 2600 with a 320 .. not bad, just really quick ... moa to 200 yards, so what more can you ask for?

lots and lots of pigs, exotics, and water jugs have been slain by the AR, and Mike showed us Eland and Wieldebeast!

All the load data is on ammoguide, but, of course, h335 gave the best performance .. REALLY ..

I don't know if i have any 300 X or TSX bullets, but I can go look.

Dies can be ordered from Hornady or ch4d
Brass can be ordered from www.custombrassandbullets.com .. its from qual-cart

reamers can go to a barrel maker or gunsmith

What's your pleasure, sir?

Nil regrets here either ... other than maybe I should have made mine a bit lighter using a #5 barrel. The three is Australia all have different flavours ... S&F's is the 400gr shooter, mine is still using the 500gr Woodleigh at 2230fps, paz's has been used for reduced loads plus 350gr 'screamers'. We recently attended a 'Shoot and Hoot' get together where all 3 AccRel's drew ample attention ... paz's is the funniest though as its got a $50 scope we're waiting to break!! animal
Cheers...

How can you regret something that is such a good thing (gee sounds like i am kissin' butt huh lol )?

I load 405 grainers at 2500fps with ease (use ADI 2206H), have run 350 grainers at 2750fps (quickly knocked up load, used RE7, all i had) and 500 grain cast at 1250fps with Trail Boss (my sons load, he is 13).

Brass is as "cheap as chips" and can be obtained nearly anywhere, all on a Ruger that feeds like a greased pig.

As far as performance on game, still yet to try it but I'm sure it will be devastation thumb.

Now now mate, I think you are being a little overzealous with the value there, you need to remember it is a "Silver Crown" Nikko Sterling, not the flash "Gold Crown" model, 200 plus shots and she is still holding up rather well animal.

Gents

Have been very happy with the AccRel family. I'm even more happy that along with the (Australian) Victorian Firearms Registry and myself we registered the name as "AccRel" after they weren't too happy to register it with reference to "AR",....... so thats my own little link in Jeffe's "AR" DNA makeup.

Now.....If dangerous game isn't on the menu, then there is no reason you couldn't put one on a push feed

Horror, horror !

I have a 416 Taylor that is built on a weatherby vanguard/howa action and man it really does shoot.

Now, its most likely not far away from a 416 AccRel reamer job. The wooden stocks are already factory internally cross pinned, all they need is a barrel lug, wrist pin and devcon bedding.

Magazine box while not quiet as long as the Ruger is actually about the same width. I have a drop box floor plate on my Weatherby/Howa and I can fit 5 down/1 up, rechambered to 416 AccRel it would easily fit 4 down/ 1 up which is some serious back up fire. Actually I just feed 4 458 AccRels into the vangaurd magazine box no problems, very smooth. Although the action rails would need to be tested extensively

You've just gotta have an AccRel in the safe.

In about a month I will have my 500 AccRel and if (....when...)I get the 416 Taylor rechamered, I will have a 416, 458 & 500 AccRel in my gunsafe to playwith.

The 470.....now don't get me started

regards
S&F

.. Well , It sounds very good .. PAZ what is the length of your barrel and is 2750 fps your max speed with the 350 gr bullet . and lastly how many grains of powder . . . Is the case too big for 4198 , or 2015 br ..... I,ve pushed the 350 TSX and Speer HotCores out of my Lott @ 2700 fps ,and that was with the factory 25" barrel ..So the AR does go faster ....

gumboot458,
Just remember that individual rifles do vary. I sold my 470Capstick (24" Lothar barrel) to fund some other projects. Now the 470Capstick is just a slightly bigger 458Lott ... right? Well, bugger me, the new owner ran it at 2500fps with a 0.474" 500gr Woodleigh. Recoil in the 9lb rifle was somewhat strenuous. animal
