It seems like somebody else would have thought of this already. Or even better yet, blow out the whole case to the diameter of the belt, and then neck it down to 416. Sand Creek November 29 1864

There was a 40/458 marlin. One of the Gun rags put that together. You would not see much work in this area.. Trying to fit long pointy bullets in 416 through the short Marlin lever action just won't work, not to mention putting them in the magazine tube. The only bullet I know of that would work would be this new 225 BBW#13 NonCon I did recently in .416. But that would make your rifle a 1 bullet Cartridge/rifle. Which, with this bullet, would be OK in my book, but you would not have any play bullets that I am aware of, other than some cast bullets. Now, if running through a bolt gun or single shot, would make no difference. You did not mention what platform. I was just looking at ways to get a 416 in a levergun platform. You've pointed out the potential problems. I've seen a video of a guy firing a browning blr in 416 ruger, but so far I haven't been able to actually talk to a person who can say they will do the work. So I'm looking at other things.

That rifle never enters my mind when I think of lever guns..... I suppose I am too traditional with my lever gun mind, I must strive to become more "Non-Conventional" when it comes to this subject............. It's definitely unconventional for a lever gun. But I love box mags. I have also heard the long action version has terrible handling characteristics, probably a result of it having too much weight forward. But I figured some mercury in the rear of the stock would work to solve that problem, and also help with recoil. Of course all of this is theory unless I can find somebody to do the work. Frank Call Wild West Guns in Anchorage AK @: 1 800 992-4570 and ask for Brian. He is the gunsmith that does the work. Also, I don't see the handling problems with the long action. It still has a shorter lever throw than my 1886 and my marlin guide gun. It is actually balenced really well. If it would have not been I would have fixed it. Mine has the 20" barrel and I stll get very good velocities. A 350gr TSX at 2420fps with great 1" - 1 1/2" at 100yds! Regards Mark

I'll call them again, but they have never yet answered the phone. They haven't responded to my email either.

375-338 Marlin Express would be close and better suited if you want more lever big bore range. Rebore the same barrel. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

Well here is a topic I actually know something on,I have had several lever converted ,if you do like the browning you can always get a 1895 Win, I have browning 1895 converted from a 3006 to a 9.3x62,also you could go with a Browning lever, they are great levers, Dave Clay will do the work, but it will take extremely long time for the work to be done he is good but very, very slow.
