"Neck tension" question for a 0.411? Login/Join

Guys,
Do a search and you'll find I'm fascinated by the 0.411" bore due to the availability of pistol projectiles for practice and the 400gr Woodleigh for hunting. On the weekend I measured up some 458WM that had been run by a friend through a Lee 416Taylor die with expander removed. Neck diameter was reduced to 0.423" with 0.01" neck brass on each side, making the internal diameter 0.403" to 0.404". Is that enough tension to hold a 0.411 projectile in place against recoil (I'm assuming the 416Taylor crimper wont work)? If so ... then I just saved US$100 for custom dies ... money I can put towards a reamer and finding a locally sourced 0.411" barrel Big Grin Now I'd better start reinforcing the M17s stock ... just in-case it does come together.
Cheers...

Thanks Boomy,
I totally forgot about the 411KDF. JGS have reamers for a 411/338WM, 411KDF and a 411WMS (WSM misprint?). I'll email about the dimensions and whichever the Lee dies come closest to I'll see about ordering. I'll also order a set of Lee dies ... that way I'm at least committed to a 416Taylor. Might just have to get some 0.410 pistol projectiles and see if they'll seat properly.
Cheers...

If you have the magazine length there is also the 400 H&H.

Tiggertate,
I'm trying to keep this as economically viable as possible ... and avoid custom dies. I have a feeling the barrel will be hardest to source over here.

Con,

I did something similar to your project with another rifle of mine.

I wanted a beltless, 375 caliber rifle that duplicated the 375 H&H.

I bought a 375 barrel (threaded for a mauser), and sent it to Clift Labounty.

He cut the chamber for the 9.3X64 Brenneke, and then opened the neck area to .375 dimensions.

I called Redding dies, and purchased a 9.3X64 Brenneke sizing die, and for a small fee, Redding opened up the neck for .375 bullets.

So, without ever having a custom reamer made, or custom dies, I got my 375X64 wildcat.

You could easily do the same with your .411, with whatever parent case you want.

I leave this Sunday for Tanzania with my 400 Whelen Improved (.411).
The 400's are a fun group to play with.

Guys,
Only $585 dollars now seperates me from the "dream". Found a locally sourced 0.410" barrel, locally sourced reamer ground to the specs I give, a little bolt face massage and new follower and the M17 will re-rise as a 411/338. Unless I pull another stinkin Ruger 7mm RemMag apart for the project. jumping
Cheers...
