if we combine all the sub 40 cal a.r. want to be's and get a reamer with diff pilots we could make it cheaper maybe chipping in 30 or 40 bucks a piece to get it started.

any takers?

actually the reamer would have to be ground for each successively smaller caliber......pilots alone won't get the trick done I don't think.

The original AR rounds had a body reamer with separate neck reamers for each caliber. While it sounded good on paper, I think it ended up a lot more trouble than it was worth. I know the 'smith that had to use them thought so.

I would go for individual reamers for each round. If I were set on one I think I'd do the 375, too.

you would get a 30 or 338 base reamer, and each caliber would be another neck/shoulder/throat reamer.. I am thinking about only the metrics ..
8mm, 9mm (yeah, its 358) and 9,3 ... the later makes bore requirements,,

but, honestly guys, i can not take this on in 06... i can send and approve the drawings, but that's about all I can commit to.

the 350 would more or less be a match for the 35STW, the 33 for the 340 weatherby and I don't know a case of the 9,3 .. basically a 366 weatherby in terms of case capacity, but such a thing doesn't exist.

hell, i've been spending WAY too much time trying to get my cnc mill back up.. hopefully this weekend.. I've got 2 small jobs to finish up, and then I can work on my "this will take the rest of the year" project...

So, 500 AR, let's aim for 535 at 2300, or 570s at 2150 ... in a standard action.

Jeffe if you think you can swing a 500 AR I am in. I will be putting the .470 together first for this year. I am off to shoot some
.416's tomarrow. I have ammo loaded for the 3 (Rigby, Rem, and Taylor,} Will have to go with factory with the Weatherby. The AR will be with a scope and the others with opens.
Should make for a sore-shoulder morning.
After that I am headed to a local cannon shoot where at least 20 different "BIG-BIG-BIG BORES" will be blasting away. I understand a couple of guys from Oregon are coming down with their tre-bu-shay (phonetics) which is capable of 200 yard tosses of either toilets or the kitchen sink.

Well here you go then. I had a good time shooting a bit. Not really sandbagged or marking every shot but rather getting a feel for how the rifles handled with similar velocities and 400 grain bullets. I was using Hornady FMJ's along with the AR loads which I think were Swifts? Sorry I can't remember right now. My son dropped by to Bar-B-Que some Salmon and clean me out of Chardonay.
We are having fun talking about these bruisers.

I started with the .416 Taylor loaded with 3031, a mild load just to get warmed up a bit. I then shifted to heavier loads going up a couple of grains at a time shooting 3, 3 shot groups with cooling time by shooting the .416 Rem Mag in between. I also shot the Rigby some but I think I was beginning to get a little touchy by then and decided to stop and just shoot the AR some more.
I have to tell you the Ruger is my favorite. The model 70 is fine, a little heavier and the stock a bit different but the Ruger just fits my body perfectly. My Taylor is built on a VZ24 with a Micro-Fit stock which I think I left a little too bulky. I believe I will change that now.
I truly enjoy the Rigby because the magnum stock is so nice to heft and absorbs the recoil so well but I think the 77 stock just feels better for me.
Here are some photos of the Rifle.You will note the H&H night sight open and with the fine sight as well.The yellow in the stock is reflection of something behind me as the stock is rich throughout. I think Jeffe did a great job for me and This Rifle feels very comfortable and is a smooth shooter. I will be changing the pad to a Decelerator. The loads all felt soft and I know I will be needing the extra padding once I start building loads and velocity.

Oh Yeah, "Grilled" is the proper term. The fresh caught salmon can't be beat and my son has a very special sauce he makes using herbs and spices that are also fresh. His roomate is a graduate from a cooking school in Portland and my son is learning to make sprecial sauces from him.
I never ever worried about the crossbolting as this was a mag before and I don't believe I have ever had a stock split on any Ruger I have.
We will be going out and shooting a little today 'cuz I told him it was a better gift than another tie.

Looks good, when you gonna swap out the recoil pad?

An easy way to make perfect salmon is take 1 st butter, let it soften, add 5 cloves minced garlic, small bunch of minced fresh dill, and the juice of a lemon. Combine, and put on parchment, roll, and put in fridge to firm up. Put salmon fillets skin side down on a foil covered bbq grill, cover the flesh with slabs of seasoned butter, and cook on either real hardwood charcoil, I prefer birch and alder, or put wood chips on bbq. Cook until the flesh just firms up and serve with safron basmatti rice, and some ice cold Alaskan Amber

Paul, that sounds like another great way to fix it up. I will pass that on to my kid who is the cook.
I think I may have to get my boat out of storage so I don't have to depend on the kindness of others to enjoy the seafood bounty around here.
I had to order the pad which should be here next week.
