since you need only about 35 more actions to go if you announce a manufacture date the rest will be gobbled up quick by the guys who think it is going to be manufactured a year or two from now. it will stimulate sales and exite us who have them on order and we can start saving up for the actions themselves or the other project building expenses. "create buzz and they will come (buy)"

it takes some lead time on your part too to tool up and get things going. it will be good for everyone to see some movement here.

may i suggest start in the manufacturing them soon so we can justify it as a christmas present to ourselves to have some cover for those with average incomes and wives

thanks.

Boomstick, I wish I could but my hands are absolutely tied on this. It's taken about 2 years, maybe more to get to 365 sold so who knows how long it will take to get another 35. I would really be sticking my neck out there if I gave a concrete date of production. The final say as everyone knows is not mine or Jon's, it's the owners and when he gives the go ahead I'll announce it.

Dan

Hey Fjold,

I am a lefty as well. They have 70-80 orders already. What do you say we split the 320 actions left to go and then turn around and sell them at a small mark-up. Lets see...160 actions time 525 each...only 84 grand each. You can just send me the check and I will fill it out for you.

You know I was joking but seriously there is a legit investment here for somebody. 320 LH actions left at $525. You commit to the final 320 and are out no money assuming MRC wouldn't want something up front to show you are serious...but hey they don't want 1/2 deposits.

You turn around and sell them for $700 each on the basis that they will get them in 1 year as apposed to 2-3 years (prob. optimistic) later at the rate they are going. Still cheaper than a M70 or like action (assuming you can even find one) off the shelf. Dan@MRC himself said it is a $1200-1500 action in his post in the Gunsmithing section.

Here is the math assuming you keep 2 actions for your own consumption:

320 actions @ $525 = $168,000
318 actions sold @ $700 = $222,600
Profit from sale = $54,600 + 2 actions

(54,600/168,000) is a 32.5% return on a one year investment assuming you pay for everything up front. Worst case you have to put 1/2 down and then it is (54,600/84,000) a 65% return assuming you sell all of them before they are produced. I would call Brownell's or somebody and dump a bunch on them to retail.

I posted this under gunsmith. I'll try here. To sell me and others why we should reduce the "32".
"" I missed out on the first order of the std action. Kicked myself. But as I look at my safe other than a M70 in 7STW I have no actions longer than a M98. So help the uniformed (me and others) as to what I could use that action for. And let me be upfront I have no desire to stop a T-Rex.

Sell me and others as to why we should help bring the number up above 400. And believe me when I say the majority of my rifles I own "JUST BECAUSE". With no acutal need except I wanted one.""

As usual just my $.02

Boomy, here's your chance to be a hero to all those that have ordered the PH actions. You buy all 32 spots left on the list. At $16,800, that is less than a good used car.

Yea, I'm having the same problem - dreaming of a 470 Mbogo or something in its class.

Man, we need help!! Is there a special class or something - the ten step method - something to make it stop!!

I suspect marriage, and a joint bank account, or build a new home, would work wonders for this PH Montana '99 action craving.

It's got to be good for something - right? It just looks too good in the pictures.

Although it would fit in their standard long action, I'll bet a 458 Lott would work just fine in this PH action, and stack four in the magazine. That's a round that would be useful in Alaska - wouldn't it???? Just in case of being charged by several brown bears at the same time - or something.

Regards,
KB

TOP TEN REASONS TO ORDER ONE OF THESE TODAY!!!!!

1. what better platform to build a 22-378 wby with Ackley Improved 35-degree shoulder like I did on a Savage 112 a couple years back?

2. Imagine the conversational opener with clients when they walk into your office and see that PH as a paperweight. I had a Hall action that did just that for nearly a year until I figured out just which cartridge to put in it.

3. It would be a great way to support an American business that wants to cater to "our kind of people".

4. Because you probably spend that much money at Starbucks every quarter, and this won't make you have to pee fifteen minutes later.

5. It has zero calories, and no cholesterol.

6. It will give your wife or live-in honey the excuse she needs to go on a small shopping trip to Nordstroms (pacific northwest joke).

7. It's less than one payment on my Dodge Cummins Turbo, or F-I-V-E tanks of Diesel at todays prices.

8. It will piss your pain in the ass younger brother or brother-in-law off because they can't afford to buy one.

9. It should make into an excellent platform for a serious DGR rifle.

Number Ten and the most important reason to get one of these on order: just because you know deep down inside...you want one!

regards,

Rich

It may be time to briefly refresh folks on the fact that these actions will make anything up thru a 600OK and the box IIRC take a 4" loaded round.

Think about a three rifle arsenal. 416 Rigby, 470 Mbogo, and a 550RNS. All weighing and balancing about the same, tastefully scroll engraved, nice walnut; a delight to the senses of all who view them.

Rich,
there are 2 issues with the PH actions, or they would take even the big stuff (past 600)

small barrel journel for size of action

small bolt diameter, period

btw, the 550 RNS is no longer called that, as it is regisered as a sporting round and all the reamers/dies/brass are 550 magnum

The way I did it was go online to Montana's web site,
http://www.montanarifleman.com/actions.htm
and fill out the electronic order form. They dont require payment now. Just click the submit section. Then I called then to confirm receipt of the order.

I finally broke down and ordered one, but I am
going to keep nagging them to make barrel
threads bigger.Talked to boss a while back
and he says they wanted barrel thread as
it is planned now, to leave a decent shoulder
for their barrela that they finish to
1.2 in od at breech. But with action .080
bigger than mauser(at 1.51 I think) the plan
perhaps should be for big cases, use a 1 3/8
size barrel(like I have on Enfield for my wildcats). Then barrel thread could be
1 1/8(like mauser) or 1 3/16 instead of
1 1/16 as planned now.The thread size on
Savage which is taking some good pressures
from 12GA FH, is 1 1/8.Ed

366-- I, jeffe and others would like to do
a 3.25 inch version of my 700HE as a
repeater. And a little more barrel thread
would make it better for pressures
from big case. Suitable for 50-55k loads,
if I take base, belt and rim of case
down .010.The case has plenty of thickness
and is very safe if taken down a bit.
And it would be good for 1000 grainers
up to 27-2800 fps. Full length 700HE will
get velocities like 12GA FH(1000gr at 3200).
And you wouldn't need a 4 grand McBros.
MRC would get a reputation as the premier
big caliber action builder if they would
go up in thread and barrel size and
we did a few in the 3.25 case with
that kind of power. Ed

okay-okay, I called just now and ordered a third. We are in the looooooooooooow-twenties.

IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVERYBODY who ordered one or more, please call Dan at MRC and beg, plead, cajol, coerce, etc, him to make the barrel shank 1 1/8" and to consider 1:10 square threads. I discussed the 577T-Rex case and using that as a standard for the action.

Ed and Jeffe...you guys are doers..give him the professionals perspective direct!

Hey Fjold,

Was that you out at 5-dogs a few weeks ago shooting a left hand .375 h&h Win 70? I was shooting next to you, and you were showing me your .375 rounds. I had the silver dodge 4x4 with the Cal.
