With 10.75x68 brass getting harder to find, good brass that is, I have entertained the idea of rechambering to .423 Ruger, using .416 Ruger cases. Danny Peterson built a beautiful barrel for me some years back and up until now I was able to get Horneber brass. Anyway, the question is how should I mark the barrel should I decide to rechamber? .423/.416 Ruger? Thanks, Bob

I'd try to lay in a lifetime supply of 10.75x68 brass first. If unable to do so and decided to rechamber, I'd go with '.404-.416 Ruger' to add an element of nostalgia. George

If Huntington's decides to stock Horneber in 10.75 ever again, I will do just that, another 10 boxes should last me for the rest of my shooting/hunting days. I can always get Bertram, but I will rechamber if that is all that's available. I have heard that the Hornady brass is decent stuff.

I would call it the 404 Ruger if I were trying to be different but you could just call it the 416 Ruger by using close to the bore dimension and not the groove/diameter dimension. The 577 NE is a .585" groove and 577 bore for example. This will take away any headstamp issue. Just make sure nobody with a 416 Ruger steals your ammo. Since you are delving into wildcats now you could just do the 425 Express with a rechamber and bolt opening ect. Maybe a long neck version. If you wanted to Get fancy you could do 10.78x68 using 8x68 brass for ease of casehead stamp. The shoulder diameter and position on the 8x68 are almost identical! The 8x68 case would require the least modification due to similar rim size and closer casehead size. The 416 Ruger case is about a tenth of an inch too short as well. Necking up 8x68 and running a 8x68 reamer In the chamber makes the most sense to me. You could do an improved version for a bigger shoulder and more capacity. 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. Dummy of the cartridge is 4th from left in this lineup of 5 Ruger Cartridges: .375, .395, .416, .423, .458 Ruger My vote, is for ".423 Ruger." That is the prettiest name for the prettiest wildcat here. Second choice would be the .423/.416 Ruger, or .423/.375 Ruger, or whatever.

+1 Easy for me to say because I don't know what your were paying, but that should be the first order of business when dealing with a fine rifle chambered for an odd round. Custom Brass and Bullets has only Bertram in this caliber. Nothing in Horneber or RWS. I am taking this rifle to MOZ in September and have enough good virgin brass to get me through the hunt. Hopefully, Huntingtons will once again stock Horneber by the end of the year. Converting to .404 is a posibility with a new box and lots of action work. The rifle weighs 8.5 lbs with 3rnds of 10.75, so even moderatly loaded Jeff's would be a handful RIP, If I could get brass head stamped 423 Ruger, I would send it off to Pedersen tomorrow. I think he would work it in as he is in my hunting party. I emailed Custom Brass to inquire about ordering Horneber 10.75 brass.
