I'mm looking for some good loads for the 405gr Remington (or 405gr Speer) in the .458WM.

I would like to have a load at about 1800fps and then another at 2000+fps. I'm not sure that the bullet will take any more than this.

I have 4895, 3031, 5744, RL-7, and RL-15. However, I can buy something else if you have a great load.

Thanks for any help.

I shot a lot of Speer 400 grainers out of my first 458 over 70 grains of IMR 3031.
Estimate velocity at about 2050fps.

58gr of IMR 3031 should give about 1550fps
60gr of IMR 3031 should give about 1750fps.

My fav load for the 405gr Rem JFP is...

67.0gr IMR-4064 over a CCI200. Crimped moderately in the rear cannelure.

In my .458 Win I get 1915 fps with this load. It's accurate and pleasant to shoot in my 9.5 pound M77 and of course administers quite a whallop for any North American game.

Jeff,

Can you give me any more details?

How much RL-7 equals how much velocity? If you could tell me more, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Bob.

Nikudu had a whole series of loads using Re-7 and 400-450 gr bullets in the 458 Lott. Maybe he can add to this thread.
He said they worked better for him on Buff than the 500's did and didn't beat him up.
