I just found out today that I am #21 on the MRC PH list for a Right Handed Chrome-Moly .534 Magnum action. (won't come for another 3-4 months) I sat on the fence too long and can not change my selection to a different cartridge. I just thought I’d start a poll to see what you would build if you were in my situation ( I currently have a 9.3mm RUM wildcat, 375H&H (Win&Kimber), 416 Rem Mag, 416 Rigby, 458 Lott and a 500 Jeffery) Given the large size and mag box / bolt face limitations I’m not sure what to do?

Question:
What would you build with a MRC RH .534 Action.

Choices:
404 Jeffery
375 H&H
375 Weatherby
375 Ultra Mag
470 Capstick
416 Ultra Mag Wildcat
416 Rem Mag
458 Lott
Other (please explain)
Just Sell it Since I have Too Many Big Bores Already

If the action is designed to handle rounds out to 4.043" OAL (mag max), then why settle for anything shorter? (If so, why wait for the PH and just get the regular long action?)

Go BIG with that beast...or go home I says!

Regards,

Robert

Open the bolt face up. In my opinion the PH is too big for the Rigby based cartridges.
.534 will not handle the Rigby as is.

Another vote to open the bolt face. thumb

A 470 Mbogo (like jeffe suggested) or a 505 Gibbs or a 500A2. Or do a 550 Mag or Idaho Sharpshooter's 550 Gibbs.

As others have stated, do not waste that big action on any 3.6" cart.. Plus you already have the 375 -458 Lott covered.

They're shipping the ones with Gibbs boltface first,
then Wea size, then H&H).532") size is my understanding.
So he isn't 21 overall but maybe 3 times that, depending
how many of the other bigger bolt faced ones
have been ordered. I'm going to test my 585HE in mine
in couple weeks, as I switch barrels, taking off
my 700HE and putting on 585HE. It's a big hairy action
so Gibbs or bigger, is great. Anything taking Gibbs,
will do my 585..ED

I think the 505 is dainty...
Do what cannot be done on other actions.
GO BIG!

Ask them to swap to a larger bolt.

Here's the little problem I'm stuck getting the metal set up for a .534 cartridge. I guess I could have a new gibbs box bent up and open the bolt face but I'd like to avoid dumping a ton more money into a custom project. I guess hind sight being 20-20 I wish I had gone with a weatherby or rigby set up rather than the H&H mag set-up. I think that I was going with a 5 round 375 H&H or maybe a 404 Jeffery when I told them what I wanted. I may end up selling it off or better yet trading it for a bigbore thats ready shoot (ie another RSM 375 H&H project gun or maybe a 378 weatherby) we will see once I finally get it. I think my RSM 500 Jeffery has me very happy right now and I really don't want anything bigger for now.
