I have a Mark X action that was originally a 270 Winchester that I want to turn into a 375 Ruger working rifle. I know the bolt face needs opened up and the extractor modified. How much rail work do you think it will need? Is it a fairly simple job or would I be better off going with a different caliber. I want it to be somewhat lighter, so I was thinking of using a #3 contour barrel at 23" no iron sights (strictly scoped), with a synthetic stock. I would like to keep it around 8.5 to 8.75 pounds all up. Do you think i can make it? One other quick question. Would you go with a 12" or 14" twist barrel? I want to be able to shoot 300 grain bullets, but most shooting will be with the 260gr. Accubond and various 270 grainers. Thanks for your help. The Ruger rifleds come with a 14" twist, and thats good enough to fire the 350 gr bullets. I have loaded a few in the 300-350 gr range without any issues

Why would you go through the trouble when a new Ruger in 375 Ruger is well under $1000? Just asking ... Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

He most likely wants to spend the extra money converting it for the same reason. Some people want to spend the extra money heat treating and converting old 98's into modern sporters when there are very good new actions with better metal ect. out there for a cheaper price

Perhaps a more accurate statement is there are cheap new actions out there for a cheaper price.

.. Slug ,, thats a nice looking rifle , all the right stuff .......... I,m in the process of building an accurate rifle from a military 98 Mauser for shooting fur , yes there are other actions out there but I want to do it with this action .......... You may encounter some feeding issues with the 375 Ruger in a 270 Win action . .... I can tell you the 375 Ruger cartridges feed like greased eels thru any standard magnum Ruger M77 mk2 action . if you found one for a good price you would probably end up the same as the time a gunsmith would put in making a standard action feed the 375 Ruger round perfectly .... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....
