Well Folks,
We had another bubba shoot, and just wanted to share some of the shootin irons we used today. The 45/70 is in the pic just for boomstick!! -

(in distance from home to the shoot)
Hogkiller, Invader66, me, Rocky, Mjines, Huntingcat, Tiggertate, and Gringo Cazador on hand.

not shown - 404 jeffery, 375 HH, 376 steyr, 9,3x62 - everything but the 9,3x57, 458 SOCOM and 45/70 make all requirements for hunting dangerous game!!

and certainly qualify for DJSR ...

I am afraid that the recoil on some of these pea shooters may have caused some foundation damage to Hog Killer's house . . . , or maybe that was the Tannerite. The reports of a 6.3 earthquake in the Huntsville Texas area are erroneous. Smiler

Well Canuck, I gues you or 470Mbogo will just have to sneak down here and make a "Bubba Shoot" with your 470 Mbogo. I shot Dave's back in November at Camp Cooley. That round gets the "Bubba Seal of Approval" cheers

Of course I was just teasin' about the Mbogo. That's a fine collection of thunder-sticks.

Not many bubbas would show up at Hogkiller's with a brake (at least up to the 550 Magnum level). We'd probably get our yards papered if we did stir.

Boomstick,

shame you weren't with us over the Fathers Day weekend, you would have been personally able to define the term male multi-orgasmic!! We went to the Quigley Shoot in Forsyth, Montana. Over 518 rifle shooters gathered to shoot from 344yds (offhand) to 411yds, to 525yds, to 585yds, to 600yds, to 787yds on cross sticks and more than 300 of them were shooting 45-70's.

They were discontinued some time ago. The lenses and other parts were shipped to the USA and they were assembled by Leupold. I do not know if Leupold manufactured some of the parts as well.

At any rate, it was a short-lived partnership.

The 458 SOCOM, it's a 300WSM case, right?
If so, it's a rimless, rebated and improved 450 Alaskan.

The SOCOM is a unique case similar to the 50 Beowulf (which is an extended 50 AE case) but with a 7.62 x 39 rim, not .308 Win.

It single-stacks in unmodified .223 magazines and is an equivalent to the 45-70.

I think you are thinking of the Rhino series which are designed for the AR-10 rifles and will single-stack in 308 magazines IIRC but they are going to be based on shortened 500 Jeffery brass. They are in development and span from .338 to .470.

The 338 Rhino comes very close to duplicating the 338 Lapua and the 470 Rhino will match the 470 NE.

That upper was part of a group buy from Teppo Jutsu (MartyW here on AR). I don't know much except the barrel is Lothar Walther and one of the smoothest I have. No fouling at all and shoots little bitty bug holes. The flash hider is a special run by Vortex and I don't know if there are any more. Marty would know. If I had it to do again, I would opt for the forward bolt assist. Everthing else about it is peachy keen!

The SOCOM round is pretty danged versatile. Good power even with the 300 gr bullets and no special loading requirements.
