It is double what many thought it would cost and it is a limited run.

A local gun store has one and there is one on Gunbroker also.

I'm not sure I'd pay $1000 for a Baikal double barrel. A friend has a Baikal double 12 gauge and it is by far the clunkiest, most awkward handling shotgun I've ever held. And he gave upwards of $300 for it. That's about a third the asking price of the Baikal 45/70 on Gunbroker.

On the flip side though, its nice to know that the Remington's long awaited double barrel 45/70 is no longer vaporware...

el jeffe, maybe you should revise your 45-70 Nitro specs. That should cause a bit more stir.

I can sure relate to that.....the Baikal 12 Ga I handled would have stayed in the racks if it was free!

The comments about Baikal shot guns are interesting. Many years ago a mate took me out duck shooting he gave me some cartriges and the loan of a Baikal 12 bore SBS shot gun. We had a great day and we accounted for 34 ducks, 21 of which were brought down by the Baikal.
Some few years later, over in Pomgolia, I bought one myself and used it for, (and don't tell the mounted brigade this,) shooting foxes. It was utterly reliable, a few pidgeons were brought to the table with it too. Admittedly it was not a good looking gun but it worked very well, it was cheap and at the price what more could one ask for. It was traded in on an AYA 25" which looked the part, but I did not enjoy the same level of succes that I had had with the little Russian fence post hammer.
The model I had are no longer made, but if I could, I would buy another.

Has anyone actually handled or shot this double?

It sounds to me like a heck of a fun pig gun, if it shoots half way decent.

I shot doves with a guy using a Baikal 12ga and he hit some birds at impossible distances. It was an old gun and had plenty use. Stock was held together with a bolt. It did the job though. He killed more than my Superposed did.(Had nothing to do with the gunner).

I love the 3 Bikal sxs 12 and 20 ga shotguns I have. They are rugged yes and very tough.I shoot all my grouse with my 20 ga biakal.I loaned a friend one he loves it too.Do know them till you try them. The 20 ga kicks less than any other 20 ga and hits better also.I wouldnt mind a 45-70 double.

I talked to one of my distributers yesterday and in fact the doubles are out. They got 18 in last week and 3 dealers bought all of them. I am in line for when the next ones come in. Rather interested to get one and try it out. I have seen a few of the Russian shotguns that were fair to decent guns. Not all spit and polish but they were never meant to be. Just decent field guns.

Just bought one over the phone, and will have it shipped to my local FFL. Will report upon receipt.
By the way, I have been very happy with my Spartan 12-gauge double. It's not a King Ranch Power Stroke, just a plain vanilla F150 that "sabes the business" and does the work.
