376 styer
I found a 376 styer but with this ammo shortage I am weary of new calibers and hornady sucks about keeping calibers they start .I was wondering can this be made from 3006 brass .It came from 9.3x64 brass but that's out if the question .The guy has no brass or ammo with it .I have a ton of .375 bullets and no .375 rifle except my 375 winchester which is super fun to shoot and is powerful for how tiny the case is .I figured someone on here had a 376 on here .This one only has the 20 inch barrel also which is short and I am wondering if it's even worth fooling with .I was thinking of making a 375-06 rifle but this one is as cheap as getting a barrel put on my rifle .

No, it is an oddball sized case with a .496" rim diameter (CIP). 9.3X64 and 6.5 Messner Magnum (even less common) are the easiest to form brass from. I started feeding my 9.3X64 using necked down .376 Steyr brass until I got a good supply of Jamison and RWS.

You can also turn the belts off of .338 Win Mag brass to make it. Which I have also done for my 9.3.

I don't have a .376, but really thought about it a few years ago. It fits in a Yugo Mauser action and I thought about a light, short thumper in the vein of the scout rifle. Never did build it.

Looking for something else today, I see Powder Valley has 5 50-count boxes of Hornady 376 Steyr brass in stock @ $64.90/box.

If 250 cases would suffice, IMO it would beat trying to make brass from something else that is also unusual.

I think I will pass on this one . Its priced good at $699 on theoutdoorstrader.com.
I had enough problems with other hornady brass the 405 win now they quit making it .I thought it was like the 375-06 .I just need to stick to my 416s I have 3 life times of bullets and brass for them.

I'm actually building two of them right now. It is a great cartridge. If you want easy brass, make a 375-06. I have found plenty of brass for the 376 though.
100 or even 50 pieces will last most shooters a lifetime.

turn the belts off HH brass works.

if you stay with book loads, brass lasts a long while ..

I've been shooting the same 300ish pieces i bought when i built mine, over a decade ago

Does it have enough capacity for 300gr bullets?

that depends .. it's a smaller, though higher pressure, case than the HH - i love 235gr branes bullets for premium hunting --

300s? yeah, about 2300-2350

I like my 376 styer so much, I amy build another!!

The one I currently have is built on a VZ24. Black Walnut stock I did. Qtr Rib sight, was that a job to solder that thing on.

Jeff and I blued it in his blueing tanks years back. Blueing job came our pretty dang good too.

I build another, I'll find a Mark X 7mag, screw the barrel off and go with a SS Shilen and skip the blueing tank. Drop it in a Houge rubber stock and have a sho nuff truck gun!!!

Mag bolt face is too big.
I have FN commercial actions; far better made than the MKX.

How long a barrel do you need to make it worth while on a 376 Styer? Will 20" get it done or do you need at least 22"? I was wanting to try a full stock on my next build and I don't like them on long rifles.

Pretty sure we did a poor job of pretending to be adults.

The bullet trap we built was an example, with that said. I belive we did retrieve one bullet!!!

While it's light to my taste, the .375 kind of defines this space.

I think the CT is more or less identical to the steyr, in terms of capacity.

the ruger obviates all other .375s

Yes sir the Ruger is my choice by coincidence in that I never thought I,d turn my back on the great H&H, but after grudgingly trying out the Ruger, I backed off and said, Damn this cookie is one hell of a caliber..Im sold on it..

I built a 375/9.3x62 a couple of years ago and it sure was a nice gun but too light and kicked like a mule..It duplicated my standard 375 H&H load of a 300 gr. bullet at an easy 2500 FPS, and yes I realize the 375 H&H can get a bit over 2600 FPS with a 300 gr. bullet, but so what!! bullets perform better at 2500 or less..

BUT the 375 Ruger voids all the rest of the 375s hands down..I know shame on me! shocker

The late Col. Cooper really liked the round + had them build a "scout concept" in that calibre. I still had a fondness for the 375 H+H.

Never mistake motion for action.

376 steyr
If the gun is the steyr scout rifle then it is too light and kicks like hell but if it is the steyr pro-hunter then it weights enough for a legal DG cartridge. Call hornady they just may have some in stock.

Is the Chatfield-Taylor just a 375 necked up from a 338 Win Mag? How does it compare to a 357 Norma Mag?

TIA,
Sid
