Finally got some pictures of my 500 AR barreled action. Just need a stock, xbolts, wrist pin and bedding. I'm ordering a Ruger African factory stock for it. I'M HAPPY!!!

Yes Jeffe, I'll need to find a good smith in Texas to help me with the sights, xbolts, wrist pin and bedding. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I'll be in and around Tyler and Texarkana for most of September - November.

Thanks for all your help with this project...

I am a sucker for the blue/stainless mix. I just think that looks great. Congratulations on working rifle that is coming together nicely.

Since so many people are interested in the 500 AR maybe Wayne from AHR might consider a 500 AR conversion package similar to their 375 Ruger package???? popcorn fishing
Maybe a new follower and coffin style bottom to get an extra down?

McGowen contoured the barrel for the NECG banded sight and barrel band that I sent them. It's around .825 at the muzzle.

JTEX - Yes McGowen did all that. I sent them a 300 WinMag, sights and barrel band; Jeffe sent them a couple of dummy rounds and reamer, and this is what came back.

Thanks for all the congrats, I am very anxious to get back to Texas and finish it up.

Very nice indeed. clap
I have always had excellent results with my McGowen barrels, including those on the 500 Mbogo and .395 Tatanka. tu2

What does that barreled action weigh?
How long is that barrel that is .825" at the muzzle?

The Ruger walnut African stock only weighs 1.75# with the solitary cross bolt.
With all the reinforcing extra cross bolts and wrist bolt, pillars, etc. you should be able to get the stock weight up to over 2 pounds.

Then you might add a mercury recoil reducer or lead and epoxy to the butt only if needed to balance the rifle.

Who did you deal with at McGowen if you do not mind me asking? I may just call them and send them an action and say, make me one of those!

Mike,
It this is the cz heavy profile, more or less +.050 at the muzzle.. I want to see Tanz's in a stock, as i may ask them to increase the length of the first taper, to better fit into a ruger stock .. that way there's no chance of a gap.

What twist did you go with?

1-12"

What was the turn around time on the barreled action?

It took about 5 months but I let them know I was not in a hurry. I believe they had to remake the barrel because 1st one didn't pass QC

1:10 or 1:12 would be fine .. fast twist in underbore cases IS a way to leverage technology

Very nice indeed mate tu2.

Only one problem, someone has put the bolt handle on the wrong side stir.

Sorry RIP must have overlooked your questions.

Not sure of the weight, I'll try to get my Dad to weigh it this week. The barrel is 25", should be able to get 2300 FPS relatively easy with a 570 TSX. I am looking for about 10.5 to 11 lbs so I may need the Reducer for weight and balance.

It weighs 6 lbs 1 oz. Looks like I will need some reducers to get the weight up a little.

Yep, very nice indeed.
Reinforce the heck out of the stock and add the mercury tube(s) to the butt and maybe some lead in the forearm, only if needed to counter balance the weight in the butt. thumb
