Well one thing is for sure, this gets jeffe off the hook to create smaller bore carts! Wink

And, if this cartridge gets off the ground, think of the potential with .411 and .416 bullets.

yup...the 411 would be cool, 180 gr barnes xpb's all the way to woodleighs 400 grainers. so just a guess but the 400 gr woodleighs could run about 2250-2300fps? 180's @ 2900fps? a damn fine all arounder a tad better than the 411 kdf. but most would want the 416 and 423 and get old school velocities and be happy as a non rebated non belted clam.

Jeez- you can get 180's to 2900 with an underloaded 300. I'm betting 235's in that range...

I just got off the phone with Ruger Firearms Sales 203-256-3860, and they will not release any info. Their reasoning is that they are a publicly owned company and can't release any info until the official press release. She said to check back in about 3 weeks.

I called her and told her that tree weeks had passed.

Id buy Ruger stock just because they are the best managed and run American Gun company we have. IMHO.

Ruger has GOT to be loving the phone calls over this - it can only help them crank up the production of it.

Not like a software company that floats an idea to see if there is interest and then decides to program the product or not.

I see Hornady benefitting more than Ruger. They'll make more in sales of brass and dies and loaded ammo than Ruger will selling a few M77s

There must be a very large number of standard mag actions just waiting for this retrofit and a lot of milsurp mausers as well as springfields and standard magazine enfields.

who is going to get one???

the lady wernt too nice Roll Eyes bent must have pissed her off. she said they dont do group buys Frowner

for me it fills the huge gap in my battery. it could be my new allrounder (shhhh! dont tell my 06!) 235 tsx's for up to deer 300 gr northforks for elk to bear and 350 gr woodleighs for anything bigger but i think i would baptize my 470 a.r. for that.

I have a 7 mag that is going to have the barrel off as soon as I hear that a 404, 411 or 416 is being made. (I want the factory spec chamber)

i dont think ruger will make the 411, 416 or 423 unfortunately...i think it will be strictly a wildcat. i dont think they will feel comfortable with a marginal shoulder with no belt to headspace off. reamers will float around about a month after it comes out i suspect...

fred zeglin...where are you? someone put up the wildcatting batsignal...

Yep - Hornady will do ok but I bet the majority of sales will go to people who may not have 13 rifles in the house or to someone who will spend the loot to have the mauser or pre 64 done up. You say 375 RUGER and guess where they look for a rifle first? The last name they heard Ruger.

510 - you may be right. As I understand it Ruger carries NO long term debt and they have outside business. They cast almost all of the Ti golf club heads sold in the US regardless of brand. I see no one trying to ban golf (altho a golf course is a waste of a good rifle range).

The charm with this new baby is its factory status. As a new wilcat-mother i find it not very interesting - the AR rounds are as good as they gets in that niche.

Yep, if CZ, Ruger or someone similar would adopt them, pretty sure they would be tamed easily. Heck even if Remington was smart enough to tame them, I could buy a pushfeed, maybe.

news alert...

prof 242 has some unconfirmed intel that the casehead is based on the belt not the body. that would make it .532 and not 512 as thought. this would make it a completely new case with more volume. even at 2.5" it would be at least 90 grains of water capacity from my estimates.

good news for wildcating with extra shoulder to work with. this means even the 458 could be done and split the diff between the lott and win mag if true. lets hope it is.

funny thing is before i read prof242's post i called fred zeglin to see if he knew and maybe get more details and he thought it might be off the belt dia. too.

he is meeting with some "in the know" people soon so more details will be forthcoming.

this has been an a.r. news alert. we will resume pissing, moaning, bragging and all regular brovado thumb

With a .532 base and normal body taper they probably have enough shoulder for a 416.

not to add another float to the fantasy parade, but a friend at Hornady asked me for a couple of 6.5X68S cases two years ago when he saw the long range live varmint wildcat I had built using this case blown out and sharp-shouldered and necked to take 25 caliber bullets. Do the math...it has a big brother called the 8x68S. Case diameter at base is .520", length is 2.65". I went thru this wildcatting stage, about a dozen wildcats in eighteen months. From a 22-378Wby case Ackley-ized to a 2.5" 6-284 to a 22-284, to the 257, to a 9.5x74R for an african legal double barrel rifle that Searcy built, and a couple more.

Hey Boom Stick! Seriously, thanks for posting the info here. If a case gets "lost" and somehow finds its way into my mailbox, I'll record the dimensions and post it. Wink
However, this might not happen considering the tightness currently surrounding the Hornady plant... about like male sphincters after watching the movie "Deliverance." Eeker

this might give us some idea of what it will look like.

so there is probably a %5 diff between the dakota and ruger...if rumor holds that aint shabby. the dakota is 98 grains of water so the ruger might be a tad over 90 Big Grin hats off to ruger/hornady if this is true. this is the most logical practical modern case to come out in a hundred years sofa
