Has anyone done a 585-600 Overkill? I am looking at midway and it seems that bullet selection (and price) is better for the 585 caliber.

The .585-600 was developed by John Mcmorrow and I many moons ago. Ed plumer of AHR asked permission to commercialize it and AHR sells it to this day. There is even a longer case version of the .585-.600 that only had a prototype produced. -Rob

Straight from the Doctor's mouth! BTW, a team of shooters testing the long version of the 585-600 using 245gr of Rel 15 headed to the range during its development for test firing, and have not been heard from since. The only remains found were 4 pairs of shoes at the firing line :-)

With Jamison killed by Obama and ITAR is there any other source for OK brass? I purchased 60 cases before Jamison folded but before I build a rifle I want to at least have brass available as I doubt Bass Pro Shops will ever carry it.

Out of curiosity, I searched for Jamison the other day and it returned this URL: www.custombrassandbullets.com/index.html. I think they may have reopened under another name.

Yes, I had one (585AHR) made for my father for his 70th birthday and he used it to take a Cape buffalo in Zimbabwe in 2009. He still shoots it regularly.

Headstamped brass may be hard to come by but 600OK brass can be easily necked down (contact Horneber and ask when he will do another run if Jamison isn't available).

GREAT caliber and round made even better by the folk at AHR when they bulid the rifle to shoot it.

They have been in buisneess for a while and www.custombrassandbullets.com has always carried Jamieson brass but to my knowledge they are a seperate retailer.

The .375/.600Ok behaved similarly to the .375/.50BMG varient I developed. Stunning velocities and accuracy initially, with a barrel erosion rate approaching warp III. 200 rd estimated usable lifetime. Relegated to the "graveyard" of great ideas! Basic confirmation that burning large amounts of slow powders in small diameter tubes leads to the plasma torch effect at the throat and muzzle. Barrel erodes from both ends.-Rob

Rob,

Is it worse or comparable to the performance of the 375 Cheytac?

There's the 585HE caliber as well. Here on AR and on about 100 other forums
the creator, Hubel458 posts. Ed Hubel http://ammoguide.com/?catid=699
He's putting together a BIG brass run at this time. No necking the brass as it's
straight sided with a taper - long brass life is the result!
