Compare 600 OK vs 585 HE Login/Join

Both were created by posters here. Both those guys have real
experience with big bore shooting. Both line up with old
classic "Ivory Hunter In The Thick Stuff" flanged ammo of the
same bullet diameter and weight. Obviously Rob's and Ed's
with new brass, in bolt action or falling block action rifles,
can be loaded to shoot significantly faster than the original
NE counterparts. I'm asking you all who know best to compare
these two newer big boys to one another. I guess Ed's can get
higher MV since his is .25 inch longer brass. But what about
top energy readings from both. If I speculate for example
that: Rob's tops out at 2500 FPS from 26" bbl & 900 grn bullet,
and Ed's tops out at 2700 FPS from 26" bbl & 750 grn bullet,
what energy levels are reached from each? What about their
respective trajectories? What about... what about... , etc.
Go to it guys! Not that it's a war, but that it's two cartridges
that seem to be very, very comparable to one another!!!

Best regards,
D'Fan

Both are more guns than the average shooter can handle... And perfomancewise they are quite close to eachother I am sure...

Which has the advantage for LONGEST range accuracy popping steel
plates or game animals or varmints?
Can one or the other shoot as flat as a .308 sniper rifle, or flatter even?

Best regards,

D'Fan,

There are many who enjoy shooting BB's long range cause they can...not because it's the flattest shooting bullet/cartridge combo.

Using 750 gr bullets in the .600Ok will deliver well over 2700fps , as if that matters. These rounds were developed not for long range, but as the ultimate Dangerous game "stoppers" to be used off hand at close Range and I mean CLOSE RANGE. The Goal was "one shot, one Kill ,BANGFLOP PLUS, i.e OVERKILL". I've actually never shot the .600OK over 100 yrds. Accuracy can be MOA if you want to shoot one off the bench, which I don't ever do anymore. At 50 yrds offhand, it will easily do 2" groups which is perfectly adequate practical accuracy. I'm sure the 585 HE will do the same. -Rob

Thanks for posting Rob. I think it could be lots of fun to
send your .620 round as well as Ed's 585 (and for that
matter his 700) a thousand yards down range (or double
that if it's realistic to do so) with accuracy to hit 24" di-
ameter steel plates or game animals or varmints. So what
if that means a twenty pound rifle. I do understand though,
that super long shots were not on your mind as you created
your STOPPER. Hey, sometimes the medical doctors discover
that medicine X, which was originally put on the market to
handle disease one, works on disease two also!

I've got some 2000gr .700 Boreriders for my .700RLG ( .50BMG case blown out to .700) that will run 3100fps. That would be a much better option for 1000yrds shooting and beyond. Recoil is a might Stout though!-Rob

No thanks.
That would be ten 340Weatherby barrels fired simultaneously on one buttpad.

OOPS- My Bad! I typed 3100 when I meant 2100fps. With a 1000gr bullet it went well over 3000 though. To be honest ,I have no idea what the top speed would be with the 2000gr boreriders as I ran out of my recoil tolerance level at 2100fps. -Rob

Rob's 700RLG and my 700HE 1000gr at 31-3200.

I finally found few longer cases so I have 700HE long,
4.27" where my 700HE is 3.87".. Holds 375 gr ball powder.
1000gr at 3400 or so. Also one of a kind soon in the Vulcan
singleshot, 700HSM, holds 600gr ball powder,
1000gr at 3800 or so.

Now for the practical, was asked about 585HE best trajectory,
at a 1000yds. Well don't know about 1000yds, but here is practical.

With pointed bullet I have here, with about a .500 BC, sighted
on zero at 200 yds, scoped gun with muzzle 1.5" below line of sight.

High speed, 2800 fps.Still going 2100 at 400 yds.
At 100yds 1.9" high- 200 0" - 300 minus 9" - 400 minus 23"..

Slow- 2400 fps- Still going 1760 at 400 yds.
at 100 2.7" high- 200 0"- 300 minus 11" - 400 minus 32"..Ed
