john buhmiller was a great catter and i am greatful to rich for shedding some light on him...he was the first from what i gather to come up with what we know as the 470 capstick by maxing out the h+h case. this idea is to belt the rum case and max it out thus the 500 max. side benefit is p242 has the same name...lucky guy.

until some spec rum brass comes out the most functional of the max line is the smallest using 500 s+w bullets and custom cast or produced .500" rifle bellets or swaged down 505's and 510's (not optimal to swage down but hey...custom bullets are pricey.) the 505 is doable but just and to do 510 requires spec 550 cases or redoing another similar case or custom brass that is out of my budget.

this would be the cheapest 1/2" bore cart to shoot going optimal dg velocities and reasonable preasure.

rum brass 50 cents. cast 500 bullets 15 cents and powder of choice.

being that it will use a std .532" bolt face you could rebarrel a rum or h+h to shoot 500 nitro power.

being that the tc pro hunter has a 500 s+w gun you could rechamber and kaboom...they sell 416 rigby versions so i dont see why this would not work.

ranger rick of alaska casts up to 700 grainers if you wanted to go that heavy or if 500 grains is enough off the shelf manufactured pistol bullets will work.

these 375 grain 500 xpb's will dispatch almost anything but elephants and fly pretty fast and flat as an 06 i would think...



swaging a belt could be done by the shooter or quality cart could do it and do a custom headstamp for about $1.50 a pop

the .500 will have the same taper as the capstick so there should be no issue there since it works fine.

it could also be thought of as a scaled 550 magnum

here is the 505 version.

I met someone who knew George Nonte (does that make me REAL old?) back in the day. IIRC he used 30-06 brass and made three dies that each swaged down the case .002". Third die produced a belt .006" thick, plenty to headspace on. It became the 240 Wbee.

ed has been a tremendous help in getting the 510 made and swaging it like the pro he is.

the 500 a.r., 500 mbogo, 500 p.h. 510 k.e. 500 a2 are great but if you want to get there on a cheaper gun and cheap brass...this is cool.

get a used 300 rum and swap the barrel.

the shorter version on a win mag gun can be done too...the 505 version dummy above is a 2.65" length for that action.

to get the 510 to work we need some special brass to still get 3 down on a rum action gun and a decent taper but it could be functional with spec brass.
