What would be the cheapest setup for 7000+ ft lbs? A 20 GAFH off the new Savage gun, something I don't know about on the H&R action? My 45-120 now is getting much better to shoot, and I'm thinking about stepping up a size! Tell me what I would need as far as dies, would those dies need a special press with larger diameter threads? I am going to start casting bullets, so now larger stuff that .458 will be affordable to shoot.

Save enough $$$ for a CZ in 450 Rigby and have at it! 500gr bullet at nearly 2500fps should about do the trick.

cz in 458 lott, then when thats done, rechamber to 450 rigby or 460 weatherby ..

The Savage 220 is going to be made into some real hammers. If you're not in a hurry I'd go that way. For $450 bucks you can enjoy the thing as-is while you gear up for the barrel change. And, being a Savage, you can have many barrels and one gun. Cheaper in the long run. You will need a press like the Rockchucker Supreme that handles the bigger dies at that point. CH4D and others will have dies or make them.

Retail is $505 so I'm assuming you can pick one up for a little under that.

Tyler: Tell me about how your .45-120 is shooting better. That's still a pretty interesting rifle you have there.

what is cheap I have several m1917 big bores for sale including a 458 lott also have all the stuff to make a 500 asquare I might sell to you.

A quality 500gr soft,like the a-frame,is good only up until 2300 fps.You need a 600gr bullet at 2500fps.

I am really liking the 460wby. Guns can be made from a rechamber or a Weatherby can be picked up used. Brass is easy to find and Hornady 350 and 500gr are relatively cheap. Compared to my 416 and 404 it is easy and cheap to load except if you want to go fast. It does use a bit of powder.

Right On !!!!!! Tho it may not enjoy the cool factor any more . I think it is one of the best Big Bores .........And has done more real work than the new "cool" big bores ...

What about the 500 S&W H&R, could that be rechambered?

There are some cool bullets out there now for the .500" solids (thanks to Michael458), cast up to 700 grains and pistol bullets.

The cost of running a 460 reamer in with a .500 pilot, strong and relatively cheap brass and the cheap bullets makes it an interesting option

Bill/Oregon, I'm just getting much more used to "real" recoil. I'm sure a bigger caliber with a better stock design would be not much worse. Although the Handi is not painful at all with the 1.5" Kickeez on it. It just pushes hard. I'm getting fairly capable with it offhand, I wouldn't want to be a deer getting shot at! Several rabbits and other small game animals out to about 75 yards have met their demise to the 45-120.

Save your nickels and dimes and fo it right. Just buy a real big bore and the stuff to feed it. Either one of Crushers 1917s or a CZ in a Lott.

When you get tired of it you can recoop most of your cash.

A "weird" half a$$ project is just lost money when you loss interest.

Ib ten or twelve years you will be glad you went with the CZ or the 1917.

I am interested in buying one of the 1895 Winchesters in 50/90 and reaming out the chamber for a little more powder capacity. These actions are strong and will handle smokeless pressures and I just like the design of the action much better than a number 1. What do you guys think?

If you are real stupid like me you will sell most of your best rifles and afterward realize what a mistake it was .. For all the work in it Crushers 458 Lott is about as good as it gets ... When you get tired of it just put it up for a while Don,t sell it ...

Are you thinking 1886 or Model 71 (.50 Alaskan)?

I was unaware of 1895's modified to 50-90, have seen one changed to 45-90 (rim reduced to .545 IIRC).

Who did the conversion?

Here's my current idea.

Fit 20 gauge Ultra Slug Hunter barrel to my Handi Rifle frame. Either fire it as is with thick 2-5/8" brass and some heavy bullets, or attempt to locate one of the 3.5" 20 gauge barrels, and then an even harder attempt to find 3.5" 20 gauge brass. Any leads?

PS. Talked to CRUSHER last night on the phone, heck of a good guy!
