I am building a new 50 B&M on a new Maple stock from Accurate Innovations, but it has the aluminum chassis in it, so that can handle anything.

I can't wait to get mine done!

I can't believe you said the "R" word in front of me! I may not sleep tonight, and damn it's almost dark here, time to go to roost! Careful you know I can't say that "r" word, or even think it, I may have to go take drugs now to get past this!

My Pre64 375 in Myrtle from AI. Looks very much like Maple. Has the aluminum chassis. AI did a splendid job.

Man that myrtle is fantastic. I have AI do a couple of myrtle stocks for me and I love them. The only thing that I did not like about the myrtle is that it turns darker over time. I would have rather it stayed in it's original color. My first myrtle was on gun #1 of my 500 MDMs. So it got a lot of handling, right from the start. Load data, hunting, shooting every other day, and I think it picked up a lot of oil and such from my hands and handling. Turned darker.

The second myrtle stock was on a stainless 416 B&M and it did not get handled as much and still looks near original color.

Blondes have more fun!
Having worked with quilted maple in making a table I would be weary of strength.
I would go with fiddle back or even birds eye maple.

How do the maple stocks compare to say bastogne for weight?
That last stock, the red one, is unbelievable. I have seen some nice stained maple on front stuffers but I have never seen anything like the color in this one. WOW. DW

I have a number of stocks in Myrtle(both Tiger and Fiddleback), Maple(Shell) and Bastogne Walnut (Fiddleback). I too, love the "blondes", but all of my heavy calibers (.375 and over) are stocked in Bastogne Walnut. Although it is a little heavier than the other walnuts, it is the most dense, and I believe that it is the very best for the heavy calibers. That has been based upon the advice of both my custom rifle makers and my stock supplier. My stock supplier has over 35,000 stock blanks in stock(no pun intended)(Myrtle, Maple, the different Walnuts, etc.) here in Las Vegas, and he has sold to nearly every major rifle and custom rifle maker, as well as to individuals. I've enjoyed picking out stock blanks for my rifles, with his advice. Big Grin As an example, here are a few of them, just in the thumbhole design. I have many others in the traditional stock design as well. These are all Winchester Model 70's, with the top being Tiger Myrtle (.270), next is Bastogne Walnut (.375), followed by Fiddleback Myrtle (.300 WSM) and the last is Shell Maple (.22-250). Here's one of my .458 Lotts in the traditional Bastogne Walnut (Fiddleback) stock:
