It would seem to me that it should be a fairly simple proposition to rebarrel and rechamber a .375 Ruger Hawkeye to .416 Ruger without encountering feeding or other problems. Am I missing something? Anyone done this and encountered any issues? Mike

The factory rifles had some problems with the earliest batches of 416s, this after a long run of the initial 375s. To me this implies there are at least some slight feed lip and or feed ramp adjustments necessary.

I am taking one the short barrel Hawkeyes in the Hogue stock and having it rebarreled to .416 Ruger and contoured to fit in the same Hogue stock. Was really worried whether the slightly larger bullet is going to cause feeding issues that will need attention. Mike

A good gunsmith should be able to sort it out. Bit like the Win Mod 70 or Brno 602 feeding problems in 458WM, minor adjustments needed. .

Last I checked a 416 bullet wouldn't go down a 375 barrel. Maybe it can in Texas? ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. How about a rebore instead of rebarrel? Maybe sell or use the 375 barrel if you do rebarrel. Maybe use the spare barrel to make make a 375 Ruger BLR 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. (Founder)

That's why we put a .416 barrel on them first. Mike

McGowen is going to do the work and set up like the rifle someone recently had done in .500 AR. They will give me back the .375 Ruger barrel to keep or sell. Mike

It will work. I've had two done and a third on the way. I did it by swapping barrels. No feeding problems and no work on the action required at all. Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two
