Unfortunately, my "African Elk Rifle" did not come into play during elk season. BUT, the MIGHTY 375 Ruger has finally been blooded.....I used it to take this little sausage buck yesterday... I was using the Hornady factory ammo, with the 270gr SP. My shot wasn't the greatest, but decent under the circumstances...took out a shoulder and one lung on a quartering to me - near frontal shot from my knees while leaning around a tree that was in the way, and threading the shot between branches and other small trees (see thicket in background). The shot was about 40 yards. Anyhoo, the 375 R seems sufficient for Dangerous Deer. Gate's...have I satisfactorilly avoided disownment?? Cheers, Canuck

Cannuck, Nice work but it looks like you need to change the standard rings for a set of low rings. Cheers... Con

For sure! I've just got a beat up old 2-7x Leupold (my "spare") on it temporarilly....so I used the standard rings for the time being. Cheers, Canuck

Thanks jeffe and boomie (although I do ignore all posts with the term "wooger" ).
Not sure yet. The factory stock is WAY too short for me, so I just threw that on for some add'l LOP. I've only shot it once with the slip-on on...at that deer...and I don't remember any recoil whatsoever (as usual). I intend to have the factory pad swapped for a spacer and a Pachmayer Decelerator pad at some point. Cheers, Canuck

.....I thot that looked like a 2x7 Leaupold ... Nice buck ... Great deer rifle ...How tall are you ????? Thing I liked about the wood stock is it would be easy to shorten up ... .If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Nice shot Chris The one other thing that you could do about the stock being too short, is just send the rifle up to me and not worry having to deal will the hassle of a new recoil pad. Besides your Taylor looks better on you anyway. Sid

Canuck, Good job. Great deer and trophy photo. Thanks for concealing the gore with that pose. Was he dead right there, knocked off his feet and down or did he stagger a few steps? Did you recover the bullet or did it exit? Apparently Hornady factory ammo is adequate for deer at close range, and then some, eh?

gumboot, I am 6' 2" with long arms and a longish neck....I usually prefer about a 14 1/4" to 14 1/2" LOP. This stock is about an inch short of that. Cheers, Canuck

Do you know what it is? I know chorizo, but never heard of this stuff before. The butcher says its their most popular sausage and that the recipe is basically just hot hungarian sausage. I tried googling it but came up blank. I'll let you know if its any good. If so, maybe I should trade you for some Ratzeputz. Cheers, Canuck

Canuck- I have the same LOP problem with all factory rifles I've purchased. I've pretty much had all of my bigger bores added onto with extensions and thicker pads (i.e. the harder kicking rifles really do need to fit). I too have simply attached removable butt pads on top of factory pads to lengthen the LOP. This is really a cheap remedy and might work on the 375, but using one a DG rifle or something with some real punch is a bad idea. I tried it on my 470, and it didn't do too well. To sum up, I feel your pain, and this is one of a very few situations where being tall sucks. But, We've never had to worry about meeting women that are taller than we are. Although, that might actually be kind of cool now that I think about it. Congrats on the deer and hope you get into some elk next year. So its true, one does not have to be wrapped in 1912 nostalgia and forgo a childs college education to buy a luddite 375, in order to successfully enjoy oneself. some nice sausage in the pan and another little nail in the 375hh coffin.... Buck, you sacrifice for your countridge is noted

Luddite! Thinking of Nedd Ludd and his army of Luddites smashing the machinery used to make .375 Ruger rifles just slays me still. I can't remember if Canuck came up with that or Gatehouse, or whomever, but it was comedic genius.
