I just found out that Buffaloarms.com has preformed 500-416 brass. I was wondering if this would be a superior conversion to the 500 A2 in terms of reliability given no magnum ring to deal with? I'm leaning towards a 500A2 style conversion for my RSM and wanted to know if this might be better???

the 500s in rigby are still under development...

if you can wait it is cool if you hate belts. if you dont like others have said, the 500 a2 is simple. good luck!

Call them and ask if it is the 500/416 NE/Champuis/416 A2, 500/416Ar...

or, generally, is it RIGBY rimless brass, or the double rifle round. there's zero relationship between them, and 470Mbogo was the first person I know of to neck the rigby to 500, followed closly by RIP and ISS

Sounds to me like it's the 500 NE necked down to 416. The English are backwards in the explanation. I'd phone them if I were you.

You'll have lots of fun trying to make a 500-416 feed out of anything but a HEYM action. Big Rimmed cartidges in bolt actions are not easy to do. Heym has a nice .600NE for $12K or so that actually does work. Otherwise, the gunsmithing costs will be horrific.
Have you ever shot or played with a 500a2? If not please do so. They are the best bang for the buck that exists in a .50 cal DGR.-Rob

Thanks everyone for the info. If I go with a .50 cal conversion I will go with 500 A2 or 505 gibbs each for different reasons. I have the rifle with Jim Dubell I think I'll go with the big bore he feels that he can make work sucessfully. I'd like to talk with someone who has done a RSM conversion to 50 so I can know what all will need to done. I still may ultimately go with the 470 Mbogo. I think I need to get a little more info before I race ahead. ( FYI I want a big bore RSM in a non-standard caliber ie 470 Capstick, 470 Mbogo, 505 Gibbs or 500A2)

Hamilton Bowen built 5 505 Gibbs on RSM actions for Great Northern Guns of Alaska several years back. The barrels were rebored, I believe by Cliff Labounty, who has apparently retired. I did handle on at GNR, but haven't had a chance to fire it. There is a guy in Kenai who used to post here that has one, and sounded pretty happy with the gun.
